My New to Me SC
Alright!! Here is my new (21 yrs old) '81 ROW SC
She is a Fast MFer. Pretty much an options deleted NO sunroof coupe. No sunroof important because I'm 6'5" and still wanted a coupe. I know the Euro spec cars had higher compression, but do they have different gear ratios as well. 2nd gear from 3500 to red line is amazing. This is one of the tightest 911's I've ever been in. Relatively low miles. Speedo was changed to US at 27,000 km, with 53K on it now that puts me at about 66K total. Couldn't sleep at all last night and went to work really early to take the twisty bits there. She needs to be lowered back to Euro spec. All in all good Federalization though. She needs new shoes, the BFG's that are on her suck. Hope you like her, I certainly do. Hope the wife doesn't get gealous. ![]() Last edited by NapTownSpeedy; 07-12-2002 at 07:16 AM.. |

Euro's rock. You've got the good one. 9.8:1 compression.
Gearsets are different than US. My 1980 euro has a 915/62. 1st 3.18 2nd 1.83 3rd 1.26 4th 1.00 5th 0.78 If you have the same gearbox, then 2nd is shorter and 5th is taller then the US 915/63. -Rob 1980SC Last edited by 1980SC; 07-12-2002 at 10:02 AM.. |

Nice car - whoever ordered it was serious weren't they? No AC, no foglights, no sunroof - all they wanted was an engine, a chassis, and a couple of seats! Great starting point for a weekend racer...

Welcome to SC ownership! Quality pictures of a nice looking car.
Don't worry about comments from the wife - just manage to slip in a few "... but I don't enjoy the car nearly as much as I do you honey" comments every so often and you'll be fine! ![]()

Here is a silly question...........I know that the RoW cars had the small side markers just forward of the doors, but don't they also have rubber pads on the front bumper where the US side markers are? Or was that an option? In anycase, this car has both? Just curious!

Your car is optioned similarly to my '78.
Noticed you're in Indy - are you gona make it to Tweeks next weekend? There should be a large contengent of midwestern Pelicalheads there.

Beautiful car. I see you've found the RPM "sweet spot", 3500 and up is where they really like to run. I'm kind of partial to silver myself (see below):
![]() Unless you need it to pass emission testing, you may want to consider losing the air pump (mine was gone when I got the car), there's one less belt to worry about. a little less parasitic loss and "opens up" the engine compartment. Congratulation, Jerry M '78 SC |
