Thump

I know some of you guys with tails have a 'thump' problem like I do, especially if your suspension is as stiff as mine [I don't think I actually 'suspension' per se. It feel more like two steel pipes connection the frame to the trailing arms]

The tail/decklid thumps every time I go over a bump. Driving me nuts.

Decklid is tight. Tail is bolted on there. What's up?

Kurt,

Maybe the rubber bump stops are compressed or have taken a 'set' and are no longer resilient. Try 'unscrewing' the stops from the decklid one full turn out and see if the situation improves. Otherwise, get a new pair!

Warren is on it as usual.
I had to tighten the latch and the adjusted out the two stoppers a turn or two....and now the rattle/thump is gone.

I replaced both the top and bottom pieces of the latching mechanism because it popped open over bumps sometimes, but it still didn't help the knocking.

Finally, I went down and got rubber weatherstripping and put it all around the frame where the lid closes down like the trunk is sealed. This prevents any knocking down of the lid. This finally remedied the situation. As to why I couldn't manage it with the stops and adjustments, I have no idea. But it's finally gone, I think!
