Low Idle at Start-up

My car (80SC) starts right away when cold. However, it idles at around 600 to 700 rpm and the alternator light stays on until I give the gas pedal a bump. The light goes off but the idle is still low. Recently, after the car is warmed up and I've driven for for a while, (say for 30 to 60 minutes)when I stop the idle goes up to 1400-1600 rpm.

I replaced my airbox (and pop-off) not too long ago, and didn't have this problem before. Could it be related? Does the idle have to be reset?

verify all vacuum hoses/connections and make sure the pop-off valve is sealing like it should. we all seem to suffer from eratic idling, but 600-1600 is extreme to say the least.
