Looking for a part...

Hey guys.

I'm currently shopping on PP for some parts for my 1985 Targa and I can't find two items :

1- 5 watts interior light for the glove box (if not available, I'll just get a 10 watt, no big fuss, but I know it exists).

2- 3 light bulb sockets for the rear right light assembly (parking, back up and flasher). I just called PP and the guy told me the part is 901 631 942 00, turned out this part is the whole housing, which I don't need... I just want those, how you call them, connectors, sockets or something like this. The part in which you screw the bulb... there you go.

Thanks for your help if you can provide some parts numbers...

Nico
... it's snowing here, gives time to fix those little things.

41mm "festoon" bulb. The stock bulbs can get pretty hot so I wouldn't increase the power rating. In fact, I fitted an LED festoon, and now it's actually bright enough to be useful - and runs stone cold...

Good luck with that - even bulb holders for the US running lights or the city lights in Euro h4 headlights (which happen to be the same thing) aren't offered separately.

Fit snow tires or move.

For the tail light, I don't believe they sell the sockets seperately.
You'll have to go to Canuck Tire and find something you can adapt to fit.
There are a few threads here on how others did it.
Search loose tail lamp bulbs or similar terms.

Local VW/Porsche dealer for the glove box bulb?

Why, yes they are. Although I think that includes the $170 lens... That's why good condition used ones aren't cheap either...

They're also stupid heavy for something that needs to support 4 bulbs, a little plastic reflector and a plastic lens - partly why so many folks are curious about the semi-mythical fiberglass repros (do good ones really exist?), or the RSR lights that take LEDs instead.

Seriously, if your bulb holders are in bad shape - too bad to refurbish - try to find a cheap light from something else to cannibalize for the holders.

Hey Nico, I hear ya on the snow, it totally sucks.

I changed ALL my bulb to leds, headliners, glove box, gauges, etc.

If I can remember correctly, the glove box light is a 6411.
Phillips makes a led version that you can find in some Canadian Tires (not all of them carry these).
They're brighter and uses less energy and will last forever.

Hopefully the snow will melt in the next couple of days.

Well, I'll take the housing out first and see if the holders are really dead. I'm pretty sure I will be able to do something with my original part.

Thanks guys for the input, as always, very helpful. And I'll complete my order now...

Hey Nico,

If you're going to remove your tail light assemblies, you might need the help of this thread. I did this job last month and it was way harder than expected because of seized locking nuts that hold the assemblies in place. Hopefully you won't have to drill out your bolts like I did... Good luck!

Any Tips for successful removal of Tail Light Assembly?
