Dansk vs SSI heat exchangers?
I understand from another thread that Dansk has bought SSI and is in the process of moving all the tooling and manufacturing equipment to Europe... Maybe I have that wrong?
Anyway, new SSIs seem to be hard to come by at the moment so I was wondering about Dansk's version of stainless heat exchangers. I had a set of SSIs on my old 2.7l engine so I am familiar with them. Are the Dansk's a worthwhile option to consider? This would be for a '70E w/stock motor w/webers. Thanks, Tom

Dank heat exchanger
Hi
This is long and drawn out but please persevere All I can say is that I bought a Dank sport polished stainless steel 2 in 1 out muffler and it is a bloody work of art. I fitted that to the ssi's I already had on the car. The muffler purchase happened because Monty no longer produced the muffler for the 2.7lt RS type configuration. I spoke to Monty and they said it was because the cars tended to gurgle and backfire a bit with the mfi which obviously wasn't a good advertisement for their mufflers. The Dansk does the same, theory I'm told is the mufflers are too free flowing and the mfi likes a bit of back pressure. Anyway back to the ssi. If dansk make the heat exchanger as well as they made the polished muffler I would be more than happy to put it on my car. My 2c worth. |

Bump for additional input...
I've bought a Dansk muffler new too and would agree that it was beautifully made. I know SSIs are the standard go-to heat exchanger, just curious to hear from anyone with Dansk heat exchanger experience. Thanks, Tom

Danks exchangers are/were not the same quality as SSI, which is probably part of the reason they purchased SSI's tooling. It will be very interesting to see what happens next ...

I've got/had both Dansk and SSI heat exchangers. SSI is the highest standard, quality, material, and workmanship. Dansk was a 95/97 out of a 100. SSI was the 100, more welds per inch, TIG welds had been the best on any product (matched by the current custom/production Bicycles and a muffler guy in Wisconsin :-) ).
I can't help but think Dansk finally had the chance to have both high end products, their own, which is very good and the top of the line. Just think the investment of all that tonnage of tooling they shipped to continue making this limited production item. Good for them. And thank you John Daniels for elevating the product to such a high level. |
