Megasquirt 2 is going to be better than going with megasquirt 1. I've got MS1 v2.2 driving a single coil, if you aren't familiar with microcontrollers, or wiring, there is an awful lot of soldering and wiring involved.
MS2 is going to be easier (or even MS3 if you want to spend the money) would be a much better place to start. Megasquirt won't care that your car is a 911, it will just care about what you're driving and you calculating how you want to fire it off. You also need to make sure they'll work for the plugs for the car, how hot they need to run, etc. Here's an article on MS2 ignition types: Ignition Control with MegaSquirt-II EFI controller Worth reading over, there is a LOT of reading to do and it will take some trial and error if you've never done a megasquirt before. A trigger wheel is going to be the most efficient way for a pickup. I used a gutted out distributor (and still am) which works fine. But that distributor is pretty much destroyed forever and cannot be reverted unless you want to go back and buy all new innards for it. Whereas using a trigger wheel is going to be something that can be changed, the dizzy can always be capped off, etc. The megasquirt will need some day of driving each coil. So you'll need to look and see how you want to do that. Here's a page on the MS2-Extra on exactly Coil On Plug setups. There obviously will still need to be more wiring done, but this will give you an idea of the previous page I linked above on MS ignition (so you can understand the triggering, etc) and then how MS drives the systems. MS2-Extra Ignition Hardware Manual I can tell you that this will be 20x easier for you if you start with fuel first.... get that working and dialed in and THEN go with the ignition. It is a total pain in the @$$ to do both at the same time, and I will tell you that from experience. This is off my 924... not a 911. But megasquirt is megasquirt, triggering is triggering and coil driving is coil driving. ![]() Hopefully someone here who has gone through the hassle of CoP can chime in. You may have more luck as well at the megasquirt forums since people tend to be pretty helpful on there, and more than likely may already have some info you can snag off of someone who has already done a 6 cyl COP setup.

megasquirt
thanks for the useful information!
this is enough to get me started. I plan to build my test mule: 911 2.2 with T cam and megasquirt 2 |

There are a few build threads on here which may help.
I am about to install my 3.6 conversion which uses Toyota COPs and MS3X. If you want a copy of my wiring diagrams, email me your email address, but be warned, they are way more involved than you will need for your engine. Some details of my build here. The thread got a little hi-jacked lately, but I will be updating it soon with latest progress.

I made ITB's using Suzuki GSX-R750 (40mm) throttle bodies. If you use these, they are made by Keihin, and then you can use the Honda S2000 injectors. Mine are at the normal 911 cylinder spacing. I also used the Suzuki throttle cables mounted to a modified Porsche throttle clevis.
I tried Yamaha R1 COP's and having major firing / timing issues. I think I need to change the dwell, but a project like this is time consuming. The wiring for COP adds to an already large tangle of wires. If I was to do it again, I'd skip the MS3X and run wasted COP. Much simpler.

cutting suzuki throttle bodies
did you separate the throttle bodies and just fabricated a mount to hold them together in one bank?

Yes. 6 aluminum dowel spacers per bank between each individual body screwed together with 10/32 threaded rod. Then weld extensions to the throttle plate mechanisms. You'll also need the Suzuki manifolds and 6 adapters to plug up the spot in the heads where the stock injectors spray. Time consuming.
If you're interested, I'll sell my entire system for $2000: - Throttle bodies, injectors, aluminum velocity stacks - Throttle cables and mounts - MS3X box - 2 wiring harnesses - Vacuum tubing - EFI Source igniter - Various adapters / screws, etc - All sensors including Innovate O2 - Wiring and connectors for sequential COP - Distributor modified for cam sensor I'd like to go in a different direction.

itb
Ive built several throttle body systems for 911 motors using triumph throttle bodies and an sds programable ecu for ignition and fuel metering and /or just fuel injection. No laptops required , can be programed while driving and trouble free. I will be putting one on my 2.4 mfi in the coming weeks. will work with any porsche motor 2.0 to 3.2. you can keep a stock ignition if you like or add a coil pack with crank sensor. Oh! and by the way, it works good!
