Rekeying ignition lock cylinders

Is it true that only 74 and later lock cylinders can be rekeyed? I have removed the key cylinder from my early lock cylinder and there appears to be no way to pull the cylinder & tumblers out of the sleeve. I have seen some photos of later cylinders that have a round clip that can be removed.

Thanks for your help

David

I recall seeing a thread about removing the ignition switch on this forum. Once it is removed, it is child's play to re key the lock. My son does it for fun. As I recall there is a pin that holds the lock inside the switch that must be either driven out or drilled. Then the lock falls out.

Talk to Tony Euganeo. He's the Porsche key expert. He lives in the PA area.

His website is lockandkeyid.com but it doesn't seem to be working right now.

Lucky you - I found my old post for you to read:

Ignition switch - inside to fix START lockout

You can even be the first to comment on this lost, 5 year old thread! Is that odd or what? I have gotten some PMs thanking me.
