Running on 5 Cylinders?
Yesterday, I was autocrossing my car, and one of the owners/main techs of a very reputable shop came up to me and said "It sounds like you're only running on 5 cylinders when you're taking off". He thought it might be an injector issue and tried tapping on each injector to see if he could get it to fire.
That didn't seem to make a difference. I'd like to check to see if this is the case, but am not sure how. Can I pull spark plug wires or something? I was going to start by replacing my plugs and wires to see if that made a difference. Truth be told, it's been a while since I gave my car a tune up like that anyway. Thoughts? suggestions? I will take it into them if it's not something I can address myself. I'd like the additional 30+ HP, after all. ![]()

this is a 69? mech injection? CIS?
a tune up is the best place to start. (seems funny me giving advice when mine is kicking my butt). make sure the plug wires are well connected. i would replace plugs, cap and rotor and OHM out the wires just to start with. several options from here: compression test- could be valve adjustment, broken ring/head stud. check flow/pattern of injectors swap coil swap CD unit. only if you have spares. fuel mixture/air leak exhaust leak my bet is ignition. how is the idle? how is it if you rev to 2k RPM and hold it?
