a low level "boff" sound and then..

no boom, no crack, no explosion, no hi sound just a low "boff" when driving and then nothing happened when i tried the accelerator ( well something happened and i made a smoke curtain about 2 km.. rolling along )

Hauled it home.. had it in a garage for a long while..

decided it was time to sort it out..
pulled the engine out..
got the shroud of and started to clean the motor when I noticed something..

/johan

SilberUrS6 04-22-2013 11:29 AM

Vise Grips. The screwdriver is to remove the kit. Vise Grips to install.

Sorry to hear about that. Hope you can find another engine for a reasonable price. Hey, now's the time to hot-rod your car!

You forgot to mention how disturbing the photos would be. I threw up in my mouth a little...

My condolences.

JohanG 04-22-2013 12:07 PM

A couple-a-three tubes of this should take care of it, and if you had had a small SPAL fan pointed at the engine case in the first place, you would be crack-free today (inside joke for Eric - SilberUrS6) -

iLOL'd

JohanG 04-22-2013 01:08 PM

only 3 tubes J-B Weld you say... seems worth trying.. and a Wise Grip then of course..

Its a non matching number case.. only the lord knows where the cylinders came from..
( before my time as an owner) seems like the car has been through some rough times

it was a reasonable priced car for its apperence.. getting it runing was fun, blowing it up.. not so fun.. fixing it this time will take weight out of my wallet ( i hear J-B Weld is expensive )

Whatever Ronnie's.930!

Sorry about your engine JohanG

RWebb 04-22-2013 02:40 PM

the bright side is that you can now install that big bore mod you've always wanted

Ha! Brando, I was just passing on a technique that you have had success with! :D:p

On a serious note - it looks to me like a rod broke (or a rod bolt sheared/nut came off) and then punched a hole in the case and broke the cylinder . . .

dshepp806 04-22-2013 03:45 PM

Sorry for your loss,..that pic truly made me a bit sick to my stomach. Holy cow....would love to know more about those failed parts.....

Best of luck to you.

You're not alone mate.

A friend has broken his engine in the same way. (3.2 )

Pics availables if you want to have a look.

dave 911 04-23-2013 04:40 AM

Ugh, that really sucks.

What causes this type of failure?

JohanG 04-13-2014 02:21 AM

WARNING disturbing pictures ahead

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397383038.jpg

look no piston no more..

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397384361.jpg

cylinder head.. ( note.. one valve missing )

got the cylinder off, i mean the cylinder puzzle, it just came to pieces..

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397383347.jpg

something bent... anyone ?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397383457.jpg

some metal grains in sump.. not to much ( or is it )

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397383580.jpg
the other cylinder and pistons looks like this..

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397383649.jpg
the other heads looks like this

Well assumption: valve guide bad.. makes valve come off.. makes valve destroy piston.. somehow shoots valve back through motor and almost out of the block on the other side..

HAPPY PICTURE...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1397384053.jpg

its a present to me and the white one.. found an engine on the net.. bought it.. under the plastic wrapping it hides..

maybe we will be rolling on the streets this summer...
