window regulator question...

Sometime after 1974, Porsche went from the old scissor regulator (with the rectangular white plastic sliders and a narrow track), to a new regulator that uses a second "arm" for bracing the regulator and white plastic wheels in a larger track. When they did that, did all the regulators become powered, or were manual regulators available? I have the later doors (SC) on a 70 targa and the doors have the powered regulators which I have removed. If I cannot source a manual pair of regulators that will work with the larger track windows...I may need to use my early "unbraced" regulators, but swap out the rectangular sliders for the wheels. Anybody done this?

Turns out I have both clear and green tint vent windows. So I have three choices...
1) keep early regulators and source early green or clear targa windows

2) swap early regulators for later manual regulators and keep later green windows.

3) keep early regulators, and later windows and swap the rectangular plastic sliders for the later plastic wheels.

I am open to offers if you have some of the above
And at the end of the day...the later power regulators will be for sale/trade for someone just dying to swap out their later mechanical for electric.

If you look at the PET for 1978 http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/en/E_911_83_KATALOG.pdf

It shows manual and power versions of the cross arm regulators. The old parallel arm regulators were also available powered and non.

AFAIK windows have to match regulators as there is something changed with the window but have not delved into it.

When the manual window regulator wore out in my 1973 I replaced it with the newer style, but original glass was still used. This Tech Article http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/images/John1/tech_bull7.jpg explains what is needed. It went in well after drilling the new holes and works great.

The later regulators were available in a manual version. The glass doesn't have to be changed but you have to swap out the channel that holds the bottom of the glass when changing from one style to another.
