giving away a 77 2.7

Well I would't say I'm actually giving it away. what I'm looking for is someone who has the means to tow it to a garage and take this engine out and install my 3.0. Then have it towed back home. Once installed, I will do the rest. that's it. As payment, you can have the complete 2.7 with 101k on it.
It has all new return tubes, cap and rotor, but smokes just a little after start up.
I've only started it a few times and drove it around the block. The engine does start right up, but it needs a serious tune up. or rebuild it. I don't know the history on the engine, for I all I know, it may have had the necessary upgrades. Attached is a pic of the car.

if you can get it out to Palos Verdes

and if a 3.0L is a straight swap...which I am pretty sure it is

I've dropped an engine or 2...and wouldn't mind doing it...and selling the engine...or maybe even doing some R and R for my very first engine rebuild....

let me know...

This reminds me of an oldie:
A guy walks up to a parts counter and asks: "Do you have a new gas cap for a Yugo?"
Parts man: "Sounds like a fair swap."

Have you tried hitting up any shops w/ this offer? Someone might do it, or at least give you something for 2.7. On the other hand, un-rebuilt 2.7s are probably a "put it on the scale" kind of value these days. For the cost of rebuilding properly, you can put a much better engine in a 911 that just bolts in, plus take a trip to Europe and eat really well while you're there. No-brainer if you ask me, (and apparently you agree?).

Let's see,

I need to tow the car to my garage, spend the entire weekend pulling the 2.7, install the 3.0 engine, and for my effort I get a 2.7L engine that I need to put in $5K to rebuild and upgrade properly, so that I may end up with an engine worth ... say $2.5K.

Does not sound like a good deal to me.

Why don't you just ask someone who is on the board, who is a wrench, and who is nice enough to help you with the project.

I no longer live down in Laguna Hills, but i would help you if I were still living down there.

Hey, I just thought someone who wants to upgrade from a 2.0 or 2.2 may want it or I can sell it and make a grand or so for which I know it's worth, OR take the parts and sell them. I can always sell it and pay a shop a grand to do it. no matter to me. I forgot to mention that I would be assisting. I just don't have the tools or space to do it.

Sounds fair to me. That's the beauty of this board. Put out the word here and see who is interested. Chances are someone somewhere would love to help out with this.

Heck, I wish I could do it and have the engine to play with. I have the room and if I were closer I would.

I know I've mentioned this before to you...

Call up Supertec in Irvine. 714-429-1863. They did my swap in two days or so. See Henry. He's real professional. He'll give you a lift back home, let you use his bathroom, even give local lunch suggestions. But watch out: he won't nearly tolerate as many questions as you've asked about this job. I should know. He sure didn't tolerate many questions from me.

man I can also borrow my pop's yukon for the weekend...

so if you can arrange a trailer...U-haul...and all the tie down needed for the car...haul it to Palos Verdes and I will have it done in 2 days...sans any swap problems...

of course you will have to treck the 3.0 over...and have a engine hoist (harbour freight 150.00)

let me know

MJ

Hey 82SC what are you going to do with an engine hoist? Every 911 Eng. I have put in comes and goes in the bottom. You need a dolly to set the Eng. on that a jack can fit under not a hoist.

I appreciate the responses, but will take the advice of DD74 and call supertec and just pay them. Will sell the engine after it's out.

the lift would be to move the engine from his car to the ground so I can drop his body around the engine...

Let me know if you still want someone to do it...I am willing and waiting....

I wouldn't be surprised if they charge you out the nose...then when they get in there say you need a new flywheel new clutch, etc...

where if you buy those parts from PP...get you flywheel resurfaced at EMS...youa re gonna be saving about 1200.00

you can email me and I will give you my phone number and talk to you...there are lot of details...no way they are gonna drop your engine and put in the new one and send you on your marry way...

How about a PP Orange County Engine R&R clinic? Sounds like there is lots of help available.

If F&P doesn't I will be having one shortly.

Sounds great, although pulling the 2.7 is a very basic operation, nothing like a rebuild. If f2p wants do it at my home, anyone in the area is welcome to assist.
