alarm went off by itself at 3 am

83 SC alarm went off at 3am all by itself. i didnt do anything different like set the alarm or activate it. only way at 3 am to turn it off was pull neg terminal at battery. I want to be able to drive the car but seems like when ever i put the terminal back on i get horn going off within minutes. I did a search but nothing like my problem on the forum. also car did start so fuel pump wasnt disabled, just horn going off and key turned on in ignition didnt turn it off either. any help appreciated. regards, mark

What type of alarm do you have?

If its the stock alarm with key operated switch in the end of the drivers door, check the wiring where it passes through drivers door hinge area.

After hundereds (thousands)? of cycles the wiring on my '81SC began to fail. I would get very random alarm horn honking when opening/closing the door.

The wire had broken inside of the insulation and was making random contact.

Power mirror wiring was also effected.

I ended up removing and repairing the harness.

Just a thought.

Until I can get to harness where is the relay located and is there a simple way of jumping it out?

Why not just remove the horn relay or fuse or whatever you have on an SC? Then you can drive it until you research the problem. How often do you use the horn? Did that on the 70 when the wire broke in the wheel and grounded thus setting off the horn. Haven't fixed it yet and don't miss the horn.

Any simple way of disarming alarm(without losing use of horn)? It seems whenever this is discussed it gets confusing very quickly.

My concern as well is that the alarm will go off at some point disabling the car?? I never use it and am afraid to.
