Question idle adjustment mfi (longish)

I am having trouble with my idle adjusment on my 911 72T. I have read all of the great info on this board about adjusting mfi, and am still stumped. I was wondering if anyone could help. My problem is that I am unsure of the idle adjustment mixture adjuster, if I push in and put pressure on the adjuster, it seems to get to a point where it stops or possibly engages, I then try turning but fail to hear any clicks or feel much resistance. I can put more pressure on the adjuster until it "engages" further putting the adjuster right up against the the little metal flange that sticks out on the mounting plate (the spring fits outside this flange). When I fully engage this adjuster I cannot turn it either way ( I am afraid I may break something)? Can some one let me know how far the adjuster should travel to engage? I am not found of the idea of taking the mfi pump out to fix the adjuster. I didn't have any major problems adjusting the part load adjustment.

P.S. The "part or possible" engagement seems not to make any difference, although I am still awaiting delivery of my gunson gas tester hopefully making the adjusments more apparent.

You shouldn't have to push it all the way in, just most of the way. As I am pushing in, I slowly rotate the tool, at some point you will feel it "click" into place (like a screwdriver blade clicking into the head of a screw, this is what's in there) and then there will be a slight resistance to turning and sometimes barely noticable "clicks" in the adjustment. If you can push the adjuster further into the pump, something might be bent or broken. If you try adjusting where you think you have it engaged, and go more than 5 or 6 clicks with no noticable difference in the idle, then something is wrong.

On my 69S the problem is that it takes forever to start when cold, when hot it starts immediately but as the car warms up, idle spped goes to 1300.

What should I do?

If it were my car I would start with the basics, make sure ignition is ok and your advance isn't sticking, make sure the throttle is returning fully, start popping off linkages and see if the idle speed goes down, check for air leaks, check correlation, and if everything looks ok, you might need to turn in the air bleed screws a little bit each to bring it down, then possibly change the mixture.

Also if it takes forever to start cold, the cold start enrichment solenoid might be disconnected or nonfunctional. This makes a big difference!
