Oil leak where oil cross over pipe connects to engine
'86 3.2 motor. I have a question for someone that has replaced their oil crossover pipe.
I have been living with a small oil leak that I have not been able to trace until today. Today I took off the heat exchangers and was better able to trace the leak and it seems to be coming from where the crossover oil line attaches to the motor. My concern is that it doesn't seem to be coming from the nut on the oil line, but rather between the engine case and what may be a bushing or an adapter? (See pointer in picture). I can jiggle the line and there seems to be movement at that seam as well. Does that part thread into the engine case and then the oil line attaches it it? I was hoping for some advice before I drain the oil and start taking things apart. ![]() |

Yes, that is the oil line to case adaptor, there is supposed to be a crush washer liken to the drain plugs. Torque I think is 51 ft lbs.
Now you need a skinny wrench to hold that adaptor as you torque the heck out of the line to that adaptor and not allow adaptor to move. Use an large crows foot.

Thanks for the information. It was the adapter that was loose. I was able to back off the oil line nut while holding the line in place and then tighten the adapter and then retighten the oil line nut. I was able to do it without loosing any oil. If it still leaks, I'll replace that crush washer. Better than a RMS leak! which is what I initially thought it was. Thanks again!

A typical leak and you executed the typical fix. Well done and you didn’t chase your tail.

Nope, just crush washer and torque liken to the case oil plug.
