Phil,
Yes, by all means ignore the comments from the dinosaur branch of our little group. Now if you *really* want to "configure" your '03, send a note of inquiry to: info@weissach.com Tell Mr. Stuart Anderson you want your baby pampered by the RUF boys from the Fatherland. Be sure to tell Stu I sent you.

Come on guys be nice.
![]() If I was going to buy a 996 I'd like the following extras: P74 Litronic headlights. 411 18 inch "Carrera" 5 spoke wheels (very low weight). P77 Sports seats 982 Leather interior (black looks best in my opinion, but grey is nice too) Oh and an aftermarket FVD or Cargraphic sports exhaust with a bypass system to make it sound like a real sportscar. Also an aftermarket front bonnet with aircooled 911 style air intake would be nice. Colour: Arctic silver Arctic silver Arctic silver Arctic Silver - guess what colour my Carrera 3,2 is ![]() Last edited by Mikkel; 07-17-2002 at 01:29 AM.. |

If you want good sporty no-nonsense 996:
- C2 drivetrain - 18-inch wheels - Sports seats - 30 mm lowered sports suspension - Xenon lights Question is, would your wife like it in that config?

We are considering going with a unique color but don't want to get something that would hamper resale. Are there any colors that anyone thinks we should avoid?
We also don't want to go too dark because we live in the Desert and it is too hot and also difficult maintainance. |

Your post is sort of an oxymoron, but I suggest a pre-96 body, if available.

![]() Since you can't order that from the factory, the closest color is Zanzibar Red. |

Metallic colors are very attractive, but if you ever need to repaint a panel, matching a metallic color perfectly is often difficult. A "common color" - e.g. Black, Red will have a wider audience for resale. A "unique color" will increase the value for the right buyer, but decrease the value for most buyers. My $0.02: Get the color that floats your boat - you should walk into the garage and get a big smile on your face everytime you see the car.

I believe Porsches look best in red or silver. Maybe I'm biased, since our driveway is filled with an artic silver metallic 912 and a guards red Boxster. These two colors accentuate the shapes and work very well on the shape of 911s - my favorite 996 that I've seen was artic silver with anthacrite wheels.

If this was a car for me, I would stay clear of the more common 996 colours like silver and black. I saw a new Turbo which was a metallic green similar to a 1970's Turbo colour. It really took some beating.

Sometimes you guys treat newcomers really bad, do you realize?
I feel quite embarrassed at this, not all 911 owners you'll deal with, Zip, are as unwelcoming and as snobbish as this - read, it's not a real 911, or buy an SUV instead rubbish. A unique colour? How about slate grey? One from the past but looks great on a 996. Ask your dealer for a picture. Welcome to the wonderful world of all Porsches! ![]() |

Other than Zanzibar Red (did I mention Zanzibar Red?), I like Seal Gray...nice rich color. Darker than polar silver, lighter than black. Kind of a compromise between the two popular colors. Unique yet safe. Obscure yet flaccid...like my new wine.

BBP, do realize that often your comments are often likely to p!ss people off? That's why your threads often result in flame wars. I mean this in non confrontational way, but think before you write. The above is bound to p!ss 996 owners off! I own a pre '73, as it's an older model, is it more of a real 911 than yours, a 993, which is really a totally different car than a '73 911, which is more in the true spirit of the original design? Course it's not. Porsche called them all 911s, including the 996s. Spend a minute or two re-reading what you write before posting and you'll avoid all the issues you've been talking about on recent threads with yourself verse this BBS. ![]() Last edited by Saffs; 07-17-2002 at 10:53 AM.. |

Why did Porsche AG call the 996 a 911? MONEY!!!!
I like the 996. What I don't like is that Porsche tries to sell it as a 911. It's not a 911. It's a 996, a new car that is clearly inspired by the 911, yet still an entirely independant model type. |

On color, since you are asking for opinions, I've always believed that different colors work well on different cars. The new 911 is a very handsome car and looks good in most colors, around here I see mostly black, metallic greys and dark blue. All good colors, but getting too common on these cars. Especially black. Hard to find your black 996 or Boxster in a lot in L.A. Many people trying to put their keys in someone else's car after a long day of shopping.
Ironically, my least favorite, and common to the point of cliche, colors on older 911s, (Guards red and white), I like on the new cars. I hardly ever see a G. red 996, and they look fantastic. Especially a cabriolet. Same with white. They have to have the new 18" rims, and complementary interior color, if your wife is not going to be speeding all the time, consider G.red. Most all of the new colors are great, get the one that you like best. If any doubt at all, try to see the car in different colors at dealer, on the road, in pictures, etc. Good luck! ![]() P.S.: As to the 996 not being a 911, which change in the model did this rear-engined, flat six, recognizable to ordinary people as being a Porsche cease to be a 911??? I guess a 930 or 73RS are not 911s either, then, right? Separate models and all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

A friend who sells used Porsches says the following colors move faster:
Black, Silver, Red, White. (in order) I like the aerokit bumpers, but not the wing. All the carbon fiber crap looks aftermarket and cheap in my opinion. If you load it down with heavy options, spring for the power package. The GT seats are cool. 18" wheels look good. Good luck.
