Swepco 201 - Only avail. mail order?

I was hoping to buy a gallon for use this weekend. Can it be bought off the shelf? I'm in so.Cal (San Diego) area. Any sources?

Otherwise, I suppose I'll place an order and do the waiting thing...

Where do you get yours'?

If you can't find a store that carries it, call around to the local Porsche wrenches. A lot of them get it in bulk, like 30 gal barrels, and will be happy to sell you as much as you need, as long as you have something to put it in.

This is what I did last time I changed it.

Usual tranny fluid reminder: Make sure you are able to open the fill hole before you open the drain hole.

It's basically a lubricant used by diesel truck people who don't even know what a "Porsh" is. If you have any serious truck repair shops in your area--mine has an old Diamond Reo sign out front--check 'em out.

Diesel trucks, huh?
Interesting. Wonder when it was first tried in the 915 trans.
Just someone's experiment?

Dude, since i'm on a rampage tonight (2nd ever post) i've done some research from this board on this stuff. I ended up putting it in my car and i was disappointed at first - didn't seem to fix any problems. I'm like i'll definitely need a rebuild. But after some driving (~100 miles) i could even get the car in 1st gear while rolling! (although at precise rpm). I don't have to nick 2nd before putting it in 1st at a stoplight if i don't want crunches. I don't want to act like this is a cure-all because it isn't. I'm also getting used to the gearbox because it's a relatively new car to me so that helps, too. But one thing on my box i've noticed is when putting it in third i used to have a whirring sound resonate up the stick from the gearbox. That has decreased dramatically. Also, downshifting to 2nd, if i don't get it right it may pop out of gear at slower speeds- that seams like a sync wear problem that i may just need to figure out how to drive better with. The swepco didn't seem to help there. If your old 915 doesn't shift like a new sports car, just think of it as a challenge. I know this doesn't answer your question of where to get it tomorrow, but look at it as an intermediate solution, not as a fixitrightawaythisweekend solution.

"whirrrr sound when shifting up to 3rd" ... Yes!
I have the exact same condition, like when pushing it quickly up to freeway speeds on an onramp. In fact, I described it as a "whirrr" when I mentioned it the first time I posted. Sounds like it's coming from the shifter itself (???)

Looking forward to trying this stuff...

dude - i'm glad someone else has this problem. I didn't know if it was just common enough that no one mentioned it or uncommon enough that no one mentioned it and i've searched the boards thoroughly. . Anyone else? It sounds like a high pitched metal whirring, a digital bird? Just don't try to shift it as fast as your '92 isuzu pickup.

As for the six-gallon price, you can probably get a Porsche shop to sell you one gallon for $25-30, (more than you need), Pelican sells for $34(?) one gallon. I have it in my needing-rebuild 915, people reporting huge improvements must have had empty trans previously, or castor oil or something. No miracles, but good oil I guess.

It's only one day shipping to San Diego. Swepco called us the other day to make sure that we knew that we could also buy it in 55 gallon drums. I'm sure that's quite useful for us...

We're selling a lot of this stuff, and our customers seem to love it!

Bringing back an old post...

Where in SD is this stuff available?

I forget if Inter Auto carries Swepco, but I bet Black Forest does... Anywhere open late?

Nostatic dude, you're not one to talk. We should ban you until you find a 911...
