87 steering rack
Hello,
I have 1987 Targa that is an all stock configuration. It seams that I may need a new steering rack. Our host sells a 911 rack and a turbo 930 rack. Are there any differences in the racks.... will the 930 turbo rack fit the 911..... and is there any benefit of the 930 rack..... and what else do I need for this project... Any info welcomed Thanks, J |

Just curious......what makes you think you need a new rack?
Unless it's been in an accident ( broken) you could rebuild it. Steering Rack "Rebuild" Procedure SC Steering Rack DIY Bearing Replace

+1 on checking other components - a lot of steering problems are in the u-joints and in my case the lower column bearing froze and became 'notchy' - I was sure it was in the rack, then I disconnected the u-joint and spun the steering wheel with nothing attached - notch still there!!!

I rebuilt my rack with the info in the linked thread. It's easy once the rack is out of the car. The grease in mine was old and bearings notchy. There is a needle bearing outside of the rack that gets loaded with dirt. My u-joints were Ok, but it is a common failure point.
