Is this a genuine Porsche part?

Hello all,

Just wanted to get some expert opinions here.

I recently purchased old old but unused parts (74 bumper gaurds) that were represented as a genuine Porsche parts but on inspection I'm thinking they are repops..... but want to get my facts straight before I decide to return them or ask for a partial refund. Initially I offered him the same as reproductions ($300) thinking that would cover me in the likely event that they weren't real items, at least I'd be helping the guy out since I wanted to get some anyway.

Two questions - the picture shows the packaging - doesn't look very Porsche-like to me.

Also even though this part (plastic) has the porsche part number cast into it does that necessarily mean it's a genuine part?

Anyway, I'm only out $100 or so on the deal but it's the principal of it and every time I look at them I am going to wonder if I got taken or not so it bugs me!

Thanks in advance,

I remember reading somewhere that Porsche (like all automakers tend to do) changed manufacturers for the bumper pads at some time.
Is it the quality of the product or just the packaging that concerns you?

The packaging/ tag is from a parts wholesaler. Looks like SSF most likely.

SSF stocks many high turnover parts. Whether they are service items like oil filters and wiper blades, or commonly replaced body parts like bumper guards. (Which may be damaged in a collision)

SSF stocks/sells some Genuine Porsche items and also has OEM equivalent, which may bear the Porsche part number but not necessarily the little triangular Genuine Porsche mark.

If the quality and condition of the parts is good enough for you, just roll with it.

Owning three 74s I've seen a few of these over the years, all I believe to have been originals. There was some difference in appearance between them. But that could have been due to factors such as UV exposure, etc.

I have another pair around will take a look when I find them.

Try to post better close up pics showing the texture or "grain" of the rubber.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.

Any chance you can elaborate on the trianagular genuine porsche mark? These parts have nothing of that sort.

You learn something new every day.....

It's basically an inverted triangle with a stylized P inside of it, that serves as a Porsche trademark on certain parts. Not all of them have it. I'm not sure that any of the rubber pieces have it.
