Momo Hub Question Help

I just installed L0231 Momo hub on my 83 911SC and was curious if the gaping from the steering column was normal. I feel like it should be a closer fit, more like OEM, but if they are all like this, so be it.

There was a clip that held in the steering bushing, possibly I should remove this to get it a bit closer.

It would have helped if Momo provided instructions, at least the one I got had nothing to describe how to mount.

Could you guys let me know if you have a similar gap, possibly any way to fix? Maybe grind down the momo piece to reduce the gap?

My hub fits fairly flush to the column.
I do not recall having to remove any bushing clips to do the installation.
Did you tighten/torque down the hub nut at all?
If I recall when I mounted mine (some years back), the hub did not sit flush when simply placed onto the column post due to tight clearance between column post splines and hub receptacle. However as the hub nut was tightened the hub then seated properly to the column.

Yes definitely tighted down, used impact gun off then back on. I took off the C clip then put it back on because I actually didn't really notice any difference.

I've been driving it for a week with no issues.

Anyone else with a photo of their column momo interface?

No photo handy, but I think mine is similar to yours, a slightly bigger gap than stock. Will verify and post back later.

Like Arne2, mine is about that distrance gap. I do wish it were closer, but I decided to just drive and enjoy it the new steering wheel

Just a follow up from yesterday. Unfortunately I was not in a position where I could snap off a couple of pictures yesterday. Sorry about that. But I have done so this morning and they follow. Note this is on an '84, which if I understand correctly is essentially identical to an '83 with respect to this aspect of the 911.

A couple of thing did come to mind from yesterday to this morning:

- Just how wide a gap is it? By that I mean pictures can be deceiving, for example make a gap appear larger then what it really is. For example the gap I have between hub and upper/lower plastic housing will fit a penny but not not two pennies.

-Is your upper/lower plastic housing mounted and firm? Are the mount tabs for each plastic still in tact and being used? If they are broke it may be possible for the upper/lower plastic housings to move forward a tad, where tad is enough to create a larger gap.

That's definitely less gap I will investigate the tabs to ensure the column housing is not off. Appreciate the photos.

Ok, maybe this is a stupid question, but a PO put a Momo wheel on my car and I'm not sure what to do to get it off.

Do I pry up the horn button?

Or do I take out all the screws on it that hold it to the hub?

Or what?

No, don't pry on the horn button!

Remove the hex screws (5 or 6 if I recall). The wheel will then separate from the adapter but still be attached via the horn wire. There is enough wire to permit you to flip the wheel and disconnect the horn wire. Once removed, the bellow type rubber can then be slid off the adapter.
