There's a oil pump gear on the workbench and I'm wondering why my fresh rebuild did not develop oil pressure on the successfull first start. Dammit!

*ouch*

On re-assembly of transmission, I install the main case over gear stacks and fasten down to intermediate housing with fresh gasket and sealant before I realize the main shift rod has to be in place first......DAMN IT!!
|
So I help my buddy with a quick engine drop on his RSA track rat. We look at the clutch disc and our buddy lets us know the orientation for the re-install. So we mate up the trans and engine, and get it back in the car in record time. The key is turned, and the engine fires right up. For about five seconds. Then it locks up.
Turns out that the orientation of the clutch disc is wrong, after all, and has now bound up on the primary shaft. So we drop the engine again, and then he has a friend come over to use an air chisel to cut off the guide tube in order to separate the engine and trans. All for a simple valve adjustment leak remediation project. :( |

LOL, that one's going to be tough to beat!
My worst was installing a new rear main seal (after doing a lot of other engine work), going for a test ride around the block and finding oil dripping from between the case and trans. Turns out I received a bad, "old style" seal from one of the big suppliers. So have to drop the engine again to install the updated, "2 tone" colored seal. No problems after that, and dropped the engine with the trans in place to save time, so it wasn't too bad, but kind of a frustrating thing. |
Well, there's the old standby - drain the transaxle lubricant, then discover that the fill plug won't come out. DAMMIT!
|
I worked at a shop when I was in college.
A fellow mechanic was doing a service on a car, he drained all the fluids, changed plugs, etc. Buttoned everything up and took it for a test ride. A few miles in started to hear a growling/grinding noise. Oops, he forgot to refill the diff! It cost him his job. |
Degrease the motor with clutch disc in place, install and find that the disc is fused to the flywheel.....can I a get a huge Fuchs wheel comment....?
|
oh that oil pump is gonna be tough to beat .... my testicles retracted at just the thought .. makes me backing down the driveway dragging my battery maintainer seem minor .. dammit !!
|
Ok this is really dumb….
I drove the front wheels up on ramps and then jacked up rear by the engine with floor jack.
When It came time to lower the rear i forgot the front was on ramps and car rolled off ramps right into the idiot who lowered the rear too quickly. Car was not in gear nor did I have emergency brake on. Luckily I was not pinned against the garage wall. When you're tired and you are rushing to finish things bad things can happen. |
These "Damn Its" have been fun and "sad" to read!!!

When ABE leaves out your oil pump O rings and you build and engine then lies about what he did thanks you RENN TECK in Auburn CA!

Non-Porsche... Was stationed in Egypt. A few of us were heading to Sharm el Sheikh one weekend to scuba dive. We pull into a gas station and I hand the attendant our gas coupons. He kinda looks at me funny, shrugs his shoulders and pumps...wait for it...diesel into the (gas powered) van. I had given the guy the wrong coupons. We got about 50 yards. The station attendants started walking toward the van with containers to drain the tank. Apparently, they had done that before. That's when my handle changed from Taz to Diesel. Dammit!

Just this past year while putting my engine back together, I saw the fire rings on the bench. Lucky me, I had only put on one cylinder before I discovered the mistake. Dammit.

Couldn't figure out awful clunk in front suspension. Thought I was going to need a full rebuild. I kept jacking the car up to look around and couldn't find anything. One day I popped the front hood to look at something else and realized I had forgotten to tighten the nuts on top of the struts. They were barely on! Turns out every time I jacked the car up the suspension would drop enough that it pulled the loose strut bodies down and the nuts appeared tight. Dammmit!
Or not so quick to fix... Was helping a friend in a last minute assembly of his 74 race car. I was installing the drive axles with the car on jack stands. Finishing my job, someone was in a hurry to lower the car. One jack stand didn't come all the way out from underneath and in the commotion the car got lowered crushing the oil cooler lines to the body with the jack stand. Everyone felt real bad and the car did not make the race:[ Dammit! |
Front of the car was stripped.... with no suspension. I was moving the car on its rear wheels and the front up on a floor jack. Jack slid out and nose of car dropped 18" to the garage floor with a hell of a "bang." Fighting with all my might I held back the adult version of "damn it" and ordered the kids in the house before they could see their Daddy lose it.
FYI - no damage! :D |
My son dumped zip dry into a cylinder on my engine when I was rebuilding it.
