After 100.000 miles on my dally diver 2007 Toyota Tacoma I was going to change the oil and spark plugs. Drained the oil and changed the filter like always. Then changed the plugs for the first time. Sense I had never changed the plugs ( bought the truck new ) I was pretty anguishes to here it run and drive it with the new plugs. Fired it up had oil pressure backed out of the garage into the driveway lost oil pressure started knocking look up and there sets the oil on the work bench. DAMN IT!!!! We all know better but sometimes we just get in a hurry.

This thread felt worthy of a revive so...
I rebuilt my brakes two weeks ago, last week I reinstalled them with new flexible brake lines. I bleed the brakes and the result was a soft peddle. I had mixed up the front brake calipers so that the bleeders where on the bottom. *Damn it!* |
We were a bunch of young students living in the same house & the clutch on one girls car was slipping badly. We macho boys decided to fix it communally on the street, as quick as possible. (We were trying to impress the chicks in the house).
We made up 2 teams to work on each side of motor & trans & quickly got them out & separated in record time. In the confusion we pulled off the old clutch, then someone got a bit distracted rolling a smoke, so he picked up the OLD clutch bits instead of the 'new' (good 2nd hand ) pieces and we put the old crap bits back in the car. So the chicks were not impressed & no favours were forthcoming. We had to do it again properly - but this time in the rain with a lot of swear words. Chicks were still not impressed & still no favours. That was over 40 years ago, since then I prefer to always work by myself and quite dislike it when someone 'helps' me. I may be slow but I do it my way. Peter 78 SC |
Nerve damage in left hand (from a motorcycle accident) so thumb, index and middle finger don't work too well or have feeling.
Attempting to put a nut on a stud in a blind area, twisting away thinking it is going good, then looking on the floor to see the nut laying there and feeling like a real idiot.... DAMN IT!!!!! |

Drilled hole in back of headlight bucket Saturday to mount new oil cooler, measure 3x and was sure it was right...
The first attempt is muted with a GM body plug and it's now mounted an inch above...just right ;) |

Things that make you go "DAMN IT"....
Drove into the shop assisting with a distributor repair, only to discover the car in the same state as it was last month...................... DAMN IT!!!!!
Still think nobody can beat the new engine overhaul without the oil pump. |
Spent a weekend changing the old, dirty, scratched fog light lenses and repainting the fog light frames. Really looked good back on the car! Within one week, both new lenses were cracked open by rocks. DAMIT! (angry damit)
Changing the oil in my MG. Kind of dark , but enough light to see (I thought). Drained the oil, changed the filter, put in new oil. Started it up to check for leaks, before I even go ourt of the car, I noticed I was not getting oil pressure after a couple of seconds. Turned off car, sure enough a huge oil lake under the car. In my haste, a wire had got between the oil filter and its sealing surface, so the filter was not all the way down leaving a gap. DAMIT (doh damit). The first thing I did when I noticed the leak, I looked out at the street to see if any neighbors had seen it http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/sad2.gif Craig |

Many years ago. Oil leaking from front (clutch side) engine seal on 912. Pull engine and trans, separate them, take off clutch and flywheel, go down to Grady Clay's shop to buy new seal. Install seal, reinstall engine and trans. Start engine. Oil now leaking worse than ever!
Pull engine and trans again, remove seal, looks OK but go back to Grady's for another. Install, install, install, start. LEAK still there! Go back to Grady's for yet another seal. He asks how I'm installing it. "Like this" (lip outward). Duuuhh. Lip should face inward. Pull for third time and install properly. No more leak. I got down to 45 minutes for the engine/trans pull, not bad since I had to unbolt the CV joints and was working in my driveway with a floor jack. Frank |

Wifes TDI sportwagen was hit in the drivers side by a deer the day of my daughter's HS graduation party. Damaged the drivers side front and rear door and took off part of the rear bumper.
Car is still drivable, nobody was hurt and the deer took off into the woods - Hit and Run :-( About 3 hours later I borrow her car to pick up some ice for the party. When I was backing her car up I heard a slight scrape in the back followed by a pop and then spotted the passanger side rear window molding flying through the air. I got out and realized that I backed into the neighbors mailbox and inflicted two 24 inch long deep gouges into the sheet metal. Good news is the glass did not break and the metal was not puntured. Mailbox was not injured. This happened about 20 minutes after I called in the insurance claim for the deer hit :-( Got the estimate - $300 for the chrome trim piece and $700 for paint/body work. |
Usually most of my profanity is used just as I lay down on the floor ready for the next task of my project and I realize the last time I got up I carried the ratchet to the workbench. So I get up and and go get it, then lay down again and discover I need a 17 not a 19 deep socket. Up again, over to the tool box to get the 17 back on the floor to put the 17 on the ratchet. Where is the ratchet? On the workbench of course! I did about 10,000 (approximately) full lay-on-the-floor than stand up then full lay-on-the-floor again. on my last repair project. Lots of cussing.

I'm pretty sure my friend will not post this.
On the way to the track early in the morning to pick up a friend (not me). 911 on the trailer. Remembered that he forgot the cooler, puts on the brakes to turn around and hears an odd noise. Doesn't think much of it and starts the turn and hears another different like sheet metal crunching noise. Pulls over and takes a look. 911 rode up on the trailer and hit the back of the tow vehicle and at the same time the windshield is totaled from hitting the tire carrier. Forgot to install the rear tie down straps. I'll propose this qualifies as a DAMN IT. The good news if there is any, the window frame is not bent. Bottom line - have a check list and use it. |
Rebuilt a Mopar small block in '67 Barracuda over high school spring break. Engine installed; used 'church key' can opener then poured 4 quarts (+1 in filter) of 30-wt. non-detergent break-in oil into lifter valley between heads before installing new aluminum intake.
Excited, fired up for first time. Clanking like hell; was sure I'd forgotten to tighten rod bolts, major disaster. Wait, where's the can opener? Found it in the oil pan. Dammit. |
Hunting squealing noise thinking it's the clutch bearing so removed the engine, replaced the clutch bearing, reinstalled engine and the noise is still there. WTF! Bought $3 stethoscope and found out it's a dent in the muffler. G...D.. IT!!!

Filled 3-50 gallon drums with gasoline @ $3.37 because that's about as cheap as it gets around here and 2 days later it was $3.22
