BBI's Carrera project

Looks nice. Not a big fan of the wheels but they are unique. Anyone know who makes those rocker panels? They are like C2 panels, but one piece and without the "shark fin". I'd like to use them on the SC I'm building.

check out the video:

This Is What A 1985 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Would Have Been Like

Awesome - I would say more GT3, an RS would be wide body? I like the wheels! Although I would probably choose 17s and go with grey or silver.

I think that is a fantastic car.

What I am currently building is a poor mans version of that car, with all the money in suspension etc.

Don't think the early 90s rs were wide body, he did massage the fenders though. I think the cars sick, and will have much greater mass appeal than say another 911 with fuchs. Least the wheels were retro inspired, kinda like those wheels Pandora One was running. Cars refreshing

Was there any RS in the 90s? I thought they were comparing it to a present day GT3 RS that Porsche would have built in 85. Current GT3 RSs are wide body but the GT3 is narrow.

Amazing car! The HRE really set the cars attitude and what lies underneath. The world needs more single minded machines such as this. Kudos to BBI!

Matt Farah you get minus 2 points for your lackluster and bored review of this road going weapon.

I'd like to know where to get a pair of those rocker panels too but I would bet they just fabbed them up custom for this car, just like the rear bumper.

Not very impressed. All the parts are sourced from vendors that we all know (ERP, Rennline etc etc) with parts that we have seen countless times.

There is nothing custom or one off as the video eludes to. It is a completely stripped car so not surprised it is quick and I would like to see a dyno run to back-up the numbers. BBI cannot even figure out how to trigger the tach or get the speedo working...there are lots more talented guys on this board who have built their cars in their garage between raising their families and their jobs.

Thats a good point. I take issue with Matts claim that it's a 1985 GT3. Well, as he points out in the end, sort of, it's not, because it's made with 2012 parts...things that didn't EXIST in 1985. Take the shifter for example.

Also, I highly doubt that Porsche would have run the oil lines through the cockpit as they have done here. (They use the air tubes from the back and then loop the lines out in the footwells) THats an interesting detail, and I'm all about "seeing" the technology, but jeez, those things are moving 200 degree plus oil, so its like having two radiators in the car, and the hotter it is outside, the hotter they get! (and the more you roast)
I know, you think I'm a wimp. Maybe, but I have a 1985 RX-7 that I race with SCCA. Insulation, soundeadening, etc, long gone. Runs a header that glows orange under the car. I've done three hour stints in enduros with the heater in it on full blast in 100 degree ambient temps. I can handle it LOL. But would rather not daily. But I think others have routed the lines up front in better ways.

Hey, it's better than my car, but, I'm not gaga over it. (IMHO< LOL)

Even though they say the car no longer has any HVAC, when they show the undercarriage, it looks like the headers still have heat boxes.

There were RS variants of both the 964 and 993, we just didn't get them in the States. The 964 and 993 Cup Cars are some of my favorite racing Porsches of all times.

I noticed that, but they aren't hooked up to anything...

To my eye the rockers are too deep. They make the car look "thick" in the midsection. It looks like a fun car built with off the shelf stuff. I have no idea who the guys are that did the video, but they are a little over the top (?) in their comparisons to later GT cars...

undoubtedly a fun car to drive though.

Good assortment of period pictures on Callas' site:

I think they were actually built on the C4 wide body, at least for the 993s. Maybe Bill Verburg will happen along and enlighten us more. I've got the resources to look this stuff up but don't know off the top of my head like Bill does.

Oh, and since it is bugging me, a 1985 GT3 RS would look like a 953 aka an SC-RS, a car that really existed. Not meaning to take anything away from this interesting rendition but those sorts of "we did it better than the factory did" made 25 years later with huge leaps in technology always irk me.

Of course a Singer is better than what the factory would have done in 1973. But what if the factory decided to remake the '73 RS today with all the technology at their disposal. I bet you that car would make a Singer look a lot less special than it currently gets treated.

I like it very much. Although it is an "off the shelf" parts bin approach...that's not a bad thing, in my mind, and inline with many great cars. This is one persons vision...and i like what I see/hear.

regards,
Al

PS: I'd like to see this in black
