Purchased Rebuild Pedal Cluster, removal and reinstall questions (with pics)

Hello,

I purchased a rebuilt pedal cluster from Bruce Stone here on Pelican. I've about got the old pedal cluster removed and am stuck on one last piece.

In the picture below, i removed the little hair pin connector and slid the clutch cable off the knob. I thought that was all the disconnecting I had to do with the clutch cable but I can't pull the cluster out. It appears the clutch cable is still stuck/connected to the arm in the red square of the image below. Do I need to disconnect that? How do I remove that without breaking it?

I've got the firewall and underbelly nuts removed, along with having disconnected the brass arm that goes into the trunk compartment.

Tracked down the clutch cable tech article. Apparently i removed the gas pedal connector which i mistook for the clutch cable retaining click and trunion pin. I'm good now thanks!

Getting the pedal cluster out is always challenging.

In your photo what you have disconnected int the round red circle is the accelerator cable.

The clutch cable and lever arm is shown in the red square. You need to remove the snap retainer clip / pin and slide it out of the clutch cable clevis fork. below are some pics of these 2 items.

The snap retainer clip / pin.

And the clutch clevis fork.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Within that red square, there are 3 things.

1. The end of the clutch cable
2. THe bushing that goes inside the end of the clutch cable
3. The clevis pin that swings and snaps on the body of the cable.

How many pieces do you have? They have to come apart into 3 pieces.

I don't have the clutch cable out yet but all pieces look to be intact. I've run out of sunlight but will attack it tomorrow. I've got everything else connected and the cluster is about out.

Motley, I bought a rebuilt cluster that is already fully assembled. Hopefully putting the new one back in is a breeze.

Thanks

Well,

I got the cluster out but not before i did some more damage. The retaining clip on the clutch cable bent up and out of the way rather easily. But no matter how hard i tried/pried, i couldn't get the nipple portion to slide out of the clevis fork.

So it looks like i need a new fork and retaining pin correct? With the current access it looks like removing and re-attaching the new fork will be a PITA. Any suggestions?

And once this is all complete, will I need to adjust the clutch? This was done a few months ago.

Loosen the jam nut and unscrew the clevis. Replace the damaged parts with new ones. Adjust the clutch when you are done (preload, clearance, cable travel).

The clevis and pin are cheap... Don't worry about it.

Screw the new clevis onto the cable the same amount as the old one was threaded on. Then, adjust the clutch.

Good luck!
