Past due introductions

I have been delaying making introductions as I wasn't sure if I was going to be keeping it since I tend to go through cars but I think this one is a keeper.

I bought it from the original Ohio owner who special ordered with the options he wanted (like no sunroof as he was quiet tall), 41k miles at the time of purchase last year (just rolled past 44k last weekend), all the records since new. I had a PPI done at Kraftwerks here in Central Ohio just to be sure there were no surprises.

Original window sticker:
1984 Carrera Coupe $31950
-color to sample (wine red metallic) $1200
-steering wheel with raised hub $40
-limited slip differential $590
-16" forged alloy wheels $1580
-sport seats $250
-cruise control $320
-black roofliner $70
-spoilers, front & rear $1325
-sport shock absorbers $180
(no sunroof)

Only big thing on the "to do" list is to get the A/C working again. A test recharge only lasted a week but even back in the service records when it was still "new" the A/C would get topped off every couple of years.

Personally I'm an automotive mechanical engineer who races cars for fun (SCCA & NASA). I've built many race cars over the years, some from bare shells. I occasionally dabble in photography. Recently I've been contributing to FlatSixes as a way to share interesting Porsche related stories that cross my path.

The Pelican community has been a great resource in learning about these cars. For that I am thankful and I look forward to contributing where I can.

Evidently "back in the day" when you had a car done "paint to sample" they sent any left over paint with the car.

I wonder if they still do that?

Those with more 911 experience than me that have driven say nearly the same thing. "Drives like new", "Wow, I can't believe the condition", "You got his where? You lucky SOB." etc.. FWIW, the car was never advertised for sale, it belonged to my racing teammate's retired father.

I've definitely thought about it, but haven't been able to get the wife on board yet. If you've got images of wine red with graphics, please send them my way. Alternately if you have image file for just the logo graphic I can do a little photoshop manipulation of my own.

Originally I wasn't either (and it was not what I was looking for) but the condition of the car won me over, it was simply an opportunity I could not pass up. Now I've learned to appreciate both as each has it's own appeal for different reasons. My original shopping list was for a G50 car with no spoilers and not in red/black/white as I was just trying to avoid "common" colors.

More tail:

As someone who has sold too many good cars (and now regrets it), trust me...you want to keep this one.

Congrats!

very clean looking car congrats.

As for the AC you have basically 3 options.

- Give up, accept the fact that its a Porsche AC and it simply never will work right.

- Recharge it every week, eventually you will give up.

- Spend the money and have a proper system put in. There are a few options out there, my 78 does not have AC so I have never done the research but I have a few buddies that have done the upgrade. Its going to cost a few thousand but if you really want working AC it seems to be the only way to truly get it.

Regards
Dave

I, too, am a fan of the naked butt. Oh, and I don't like spoilers on 911s, LOL.

As far as graphics goes, I would say please don't. The car is magnificient as it sits, and needs nothing to make it look like a show car.

If you're interested in functional AC for the car, PM me. I can give you some recommendations and warnings.

That car looks to be pretty much concourse ready from the photos. If I (personally) were to make any changes, it might be H4's and a Euro stance....but that would be it. It looks cherry.

That is a really nice car. Please don't pimp it up with graphics and the like(no offense to Joe-Bob).

I like it a lot. When I was shopping, I almost bought a '79 in a similar color.

Thanks for warm reception. Car was all stock when I picked it up except for a Yamaha cassette stereo. PO had the dealer remove the stock one before delivery so he could put in what was, at the time, was considered an audiophile piece.

Since then, it's been lowered but not reindexed, swapped the sealed beams for replacement drop in Bosch H4s (not Euro H4s) to preserve the original sugar scoop look that I think goes so well with that older period color, and I put in a SW chip with M&K premuffler and 2in/1out.

The only other thing I've been considering is a Prototipo steering wheel but I'd like to go with one of the larger 370 or 380mm ones so that is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Also I want to preserve the extended hub wheel position and I'm not sure yet what Momo adapter will let me do that. I have measurements off of the Zuffenhaus hub but I don't know how that relates to stock.
