starting promblems

Hey everyone
I'm new to thus site, I own a 84 911 after a few days of heavy rain I'm having problems starting. It turns over but will not fire up, does any one have any ideas on steps to do to help. This is my first Porsche and I'm not shore where to start apart of letting it dry out. Has never been this bad, some problems after rain before but always ended up turning over and starting. Any help would be great

Check the inside if the distributor cap for moisture. If it is wet, dry it out and try starting. If that works, replace the cap and rotor.

i take it it is outside as in not garaged.

you need fuel, air and spark to make it run.
water in the dist cap can be a problem. old plug wires that are wet. wiring for the FI, such as the CPS.
any fuses blown?
i would first check for spark. if none, clean and dry the cap.
check for fuel. jump the FP relay a try it again.

i would get it running then while running, i would wet down parts of the engine to see what makes it stop.

does it leak? any relays under the seat that make it run. not sure where the DME is located on your car.

Given you have had this problem before after dampness, I would chill on jumping into fuel delivery immediately.

Wait until late tonight and have someone crank the car over in the darkest place you can put the car. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness. You may see a great light show in the engine compartment helping you zero in on what may be keeping spark from reaching the plugs.

Do check the cap inside.

It is always better to charge the battery than jump it.
