993 Targa questions
Hi, I am considering a 993 Targa. Would appreciate any advice you can give please.
1. Does the Targa have any less rear room than the coupe, due to the roof motors/ mechanism etc? 2. The glass roof has a scratch - the dealer says he will fit a new glass - how practical is that? How straightforward (or not) 3. Finally, I hear these roofs are 'trouble' - should I steer clear and get a coupe with a sunroof instead? Thx |

Not a 993 Targa expert by any means. But always happy to chime in.
Based on a buddy's 993 Targa - some answers: 1) I don't think you'll notice. It is smaller than the coupe though. I don't think it is as small as the convertible though - it may be. 2) How practical is the dealer fitting new glass for the roof? If he's paying for it, you get a warranty and it's factory glass, fine. If you are paying for it - leave it. That's an expensive piece of glass, and I doubt it is straightforward to replace. 3) Roof trouble. On the early 993 Targas - you had to close them while the car was on a level surface and not moving (ha! check your oil too I guess), because they could bind up while closing and jam or break. I don't know if they added rigidity to the car later in the 993 line to fix this or not. I've always thought the 993 Targa was a neat car.

IIRC it was the first year of the glass roof targa that had the "shattering syndrome" and that the later cars had some reinforcement added
Kidasters points are correct. |
