Trade an SC Cab for a Targa

Curious to get the groups reaction to trading an '83 SC Cabriolet for a Targa. I love my Cab but I live in NE Ohio and I really think I would get a lot more use of a Targa than I do my Cabriolet. I finally got the car exactly how I want it but am considering trading.

The rationale is primarily based on usage. I had a 914 that I sold about 3 years ago and I loved the functionality of the targa. I swear I was able to get almost 3 months more top off driving than I get with the Cab. In early Spring and later Fall on a decent day I was able to open the top on my 914, turn the heat on and enjoy the day and sunshine. Believe me, living in NE Ohio, I need to enjoy all the sunshine I can! The 911 Porsche Cab is pretty close to two wheel driving with the exposure.

Just a fleeting thought. I am considering a second Porsche but not sure how practical that is - even though that would be ideal (and why not get a coupe as well?). Would only do the trade if I found an equally clean Targa.

Thoughts?

To me, your '83 is unique: first of the Cab, last year of the SC. For that reason I'd think more along the lines of keeping it and instead picking up a "cheap" Targa, perhaps a mid-70's, that could fulfill your needs?

I also enjoy the Targa's ability to provide both open air motoring and a sense of privacy behind the 'bar and rear glass which, it should be pointed out, provides superior sound bounceback for your rear speaker set. Oh snap!

Vance,

You need to move down to Columbus, it's like the tropics down here. I've got an 83cab also and was able to drive it till mid December before the weather turned. Personally, I think the 83 cab is a unique car (probably don't need to tell you that.) Anyway that's my 2C. Come down to P2O in Granville the last weekend in July. There will be plenty of cars down here. Maybe you could work out a trade with someone.

not sure what part of ne ohio you are in but i'm about 20 mins west of downtown and have a targa (83 as well!). i'd be more than happy to meet up and let you see the best of both worlds.

like timmy said, if you get a targa get a hardtop. we just happen to make exact replicas of the 75 factory hardtop in both carbon fiber (only 10.5lbs!) and fiberglass, and we are currently working on a version that uses the roller latch system.

Nineball - I live in Lakewood so we should connect just to give me a taste of the "Targa" option.

The '83 Cab is unique, and after all I've done to it, it would be tough for me to give it up. I keep looking for that $8k project Targa but no luck so far.

I know what you guys are up against. I lived in North Ridgeville before moving down here. O.K., so both of you guys need to come down here end of July. It will be a nice weekend gathering. Warren

I remember the first time my wife (then girlfriend) took me to the metro parks. Coming from the Chicago suburbs I'd never seen anything like that, great place. If I'm up in that neighborhood I will give you a shoot out. Warren
