Not having dealt with them personally, but from all the bad press on this board, I would presume that at least someone would have a negative comment on their EBay rating....

I like the word they used: "remanufactured".

That's a valid point. MM runs a big business, they have been doing so for years, and they have been getting blasted on this forum for years. Something doesn't add up. I have never done business with them and don't plan to, but if every second engine they rebuild blows up, how is it that they are still in business? Finally, people will stop doing business with them, but this has not happened.

MM might have done poor work at some point, or whatever, but is the bulk of what is written on PP here just parroting previous remarks? Has a mob mentality taken over?

Yes, it is clear that their prices are low, but is there a possibility that they have discovered certain efficiencies in order to make this so, and Pelicans simply beat on them because that's what we do and we like it?

Jerome,

A few years ago, I bought a '77S roller with 44K miles on it and you could still smell the leather. Except for the paint because the car was allowed to sit under the sun for so many years, the interior was in pristine condition. So I asked the previous owner about the missing engine and transmission.

He sent the engine to California for an engine rebuild. And then the transmission to MM. To make the story short, the bill for the engine and transmission rebuild kept changing and increasing as time went by. And finally, the PO decided enough was enough and forfeited both the engine and transmission to MM.

The PO was so disgusted with the transaction with MM I thought the PO would give the roller to me for FREE!!!!! I paid less than I spent on a pair of 9" Fuch wheels. This was the closest I've been to MM. And I'm not complaining.

BTW, there are still a lot of people getting into 911 cars that are not familiar with Pelican parts forum or Internet.

Tony

This is just a nutso statement. What's the real story?

But they seem to move from "strength to strength" anyways, what with the new 6 lifts and increased footage area. I would guess there ARE plenty of 911 owners who have not performed due diligence in looking up MM via a search and reading up (read: Here, at this BBS).

Here in Seattle we had a major rebuilder as well, he attempted the same model of assembly-line rebuild. It did not end up well, but that might be another story.

The amazing thing is the if you google them, everything on the list except their actual website refers to all of the reported problems, scams etc...

how does anyone not see that when they look them up?

Marketing.

Added thoughts: I don't support MM in any way. They mean nothing to me, but I think it is fascinating that while there are all sorts of complaints floating around, MM is still in business and evidently flourishing. Has no one sued them? They will never touch any part of my car, but if I had the problems with them that I see others talk about I would pursue litigation as loudly as I could. How about a class action suit?

Somebody must be suing them right now. . .
