Turn signals not working - 79 SC

Team

I have a problem with my blinkers that started off with them flashing extra fast. I have replaced the bulbs, cleaned the contacts, cleaned the earth, changed the fuses. None of this fixed the problem so I assumed it had to be the relay. So I replaced the Hella relay with a different brand from a reputable Porsche parts dealer, and now the blinkers come on but do not flash, they just stay lit.

Is there anything I may have missed? Some people on the interwebs have said the non-genuine relays don't always work and you need the real deal.

Would appreciate any advice.

Car is a 79sc

Cheers,

- Alex

Do your hazard lights work?

Hazards not working either. They light up but don't flash.

I'd look further into the hazard switch. It has a lot to do with the turn signals

The third page is mostly the turn signals and hazard lights.

You need this relay 914-618-303-11-M44
I tried every relay i could find locally (even ordered a few) and none worked correctly.
I payed 56.00 for it here on Pelican on 6/13/2012
It's now listed at 60.75..........rediculous money for a flasher if you ask me.

the same relay controls the turn signals and the hazards, so if both stopped working at the same time then the culprit is obviously the relay. You have the wrong type of relay, or a defective one.

turn signals

In an 80 SC had problems with blinkers and flashers. Turned out to be wires running behind the right rear shock mount in engine compartment were chafed and broken. Looked fine until I lifted the bundle and saw covering and wires worn through bundle and insulation. Don't know why it didn't burn down. This takes only a quick look.
Good luck.

Just to finish off the thread - the problem turned out to be the non-genuine relay I ordered. Once I replaced it with the very expensive genuine part everything worked fine again - obviously not an item you can cheap out on!
