That's bad. The location of the extinguisher is important. In my case it is attached to the lower front of the passenger seat, a common location. What good would it have done me with a hit like that?

Great idea and I have one, but I don't think I could get to it mounted on the front passenger seat in this type of crash. Hopefully everyone will recover and live a full life.

My extinguisher is mounted between the rear seats at calf level - right behind the emergency brake. In any event, our cars don't win accidents, so we have to rely on awareness and defensive driving to avoid them.

if my car is one fire, I will get the hell out of the car rather than trying to put the fire out from inside. i have an extinguisher but would only use it to put on a small engine fire or something like that, not a fire in the passenger compartment.

Looks like the fuel tank was compromised. I doubt a small 2.5lb floor board fire extinguisher would of been at all helpful.
It took some time to get the passenger out of the car, sadly. |

Your fire extinguisher in an accident like this one is only used to beat back the flames enough to escape. Not to actually put out the fire. To put out the fire, your best bet is an on board fire system with a big bottle in the trunk or wait for the fire department.
