Would a bad/failing Pertronix cause a weak spark in 2 cylinders?

I'm still trying to diagnose my problems with my motor. It's on 5, maybe 4 cylinders under load. Have tested fuel, spark, and replaced all ignition components. I'm looking at distributor now.

Have just read that leaving the key turned on without firing can compromise pertronix. I've also had a frayed pertronix wire. Wondering if I should just replace it and see if that solves my problem?

I believe you mentioned troubleshooting this in a previous thread. I believe the petronix is going to work or not. The only one I have ever had to fail, completely failed. I find it hard to believe that it would consistently fail on the same 1 or 2 cylinders. The internals of these are pretty simple with the complex part being in the pickup portion.

How did you arrive at the problem statement that the engine is running weak spark on 1 or 2 cylinders?

I've been researching, and found that quite a few people have had problems with the engine missing, or dropping cylinders under load, and swapping the pertronix fixed it. (I've googled since I've posted)

I tested spark from the distributor with a spare spark plug on Sunday.
