Engine bay "rubber flaps"

Hi Guys,

I just made a mistake..........have the engine out and sprayed some wd 40 on the rubber flaps that surrounds the engine tin to clean it up - it sort of crimpled/dissintegrated.

Is it easy to replace (does not look like it) and what is the proper name for it?

Cheers,

Christian

Very easy. Engine sheet metal seal. You will need the "front"and the "three sided"
pieces.

I have never had to remove mine and re-install. However, when I remove and replace those long black rubber strips under the doors, I sink the strips in a tub of hot water for a while and use glycerin or KY Jelly (water based sex lubricant) to help the stuff slide into place. I don't see any big problems.

Agree that you would have to push it in given it's shape.

soapy water - then the water will evaporate, "locking" or sticking it in place - greases will not do that

only special (non-petroleum) greases should be used on rubber anyway
