pedal cluster 80 sc
Now that I have gotten the pedal cluster out, cleaned up, and ready for reassembly I have a question about the bronze bearing kit I bought for the rebuild. Do I need to "tap" the different bearings into their respective locations? I assume they do not just slide into place. I ask because I do not want to bugger up the inside of any of the cluster pieces. Thanks. Beany

Mine went together with just hand pressure. If it does not you have some issues.
Be sure to soak the bushings overnight or longer immersed in some oil and use a good quality light grease on assembly.

I had to tap the accelerator bushings onto the shaft. Once past the clip groove, it was very free and slid easily.
Mine is an 87', but the bushings for the accel I believe is the same as yours. My brake and clutch however still use the original plastic bushing design for my MY.

No tapping necessary, normally

Arnage

Largely depends on condition of components. Rust, paint, corrosion, etc. can make assembly more difficult. These clusters tend to be rusty and that will distort receiving surfaces.

I was able, with a little sandpaper and soft work to clean things up and get everything fitting nicely. Finished the day by cleaning all the pedals, etc and painted them. Looks sharp. Thanks.
