Sanden SD 709 Fitment Question
I have read extensively on 911 AC systems for SC and Carrera's but have never heard the SD 709 model mentioned as a suitable replacement. My SC came with one new in the box along with the aluminum mounting plate and hardware. With summerr approaching I am considering reinstalling the AC system. Has anyone had experience with the SD 709?
Thx

Normally we use a SD507. But, you can use the 709 or 708 if its mounting ears align up on the aluminum adapter plate you have. Take it out of the box, find 4 10mm bolts and try attaching it to the adapter plate.
If you have a compressor already on the car and the refrigerant hoses are connected to it, just loosen the belt tension locking nut on the left hand side of its mounting plate and the 3 bolts that secure the mounting plate to the base plate. Remove the AC belt from the compressor pulley and Carefully move the existing compressor to the side. Place the 709 and its adapter plate on the base plate and see if you have one of the 2 pulley grooves of the 709 align with the AC pulley groove on the engine crank. Look to see if you have holes in the aluminum adapter plate that will allow you to insert 10 mm bolts through it and through the base plate. Possible issues you might have with the 709, depending upon which configuration of it you have, is: A) Are there refrigerant service ports on the compressor body that you can easily access to put refrigerant service hoses on to evacuate and charge. With our 507 the service ports are on the side; we orientate the compressor so the service ports and hose ports are pointing toward the engine's oil filter. B) Once you get the compressor pulley to align with the engine crank pulley, you will want to carefully close the engine deck lid (be careful if you have the other compressor still in the bay) to insure that the compressor pulley does not make contact. C) Are the hose ports on the compressor where you will attach the vehicles refrigerant hoses flare or o-ring. You can remove one of the 709's shipping caps and inspect. You will need to possibly have a few custom hoses made to mate up with it. This is where you might want to consider buying a turn-key solution vs. piece mealing something together: Things you would need moving forward it what you have fits: 1) Ester refrigerant oil. You will want to dump out what ever oil is the 709 you have and fill the compressor with 5-6 ounces of ester oil. 2) You will need a new drier. 3) You will want to add a binary low-high pressure switch to help protect the compressor; again there are turn-key solutions available. Looking further down the road, if you drive in NC, you will not be happy with a stock AC system using just the 709. You will need: Barrier hose set to reduce refrigerant permeation leaks or you will be recharging the system. More Condensers. More Vents. The additional things you will need all depend upon a few factors; if you want to do the job right the first time. Read The Mr. Ice Project |
