911 / 914-6 Fan Belt Tension
Since you cannot see the belt welll enough to measure deflection after reinstalling into a 914/6 what is the best way to be sure you have the tension correct? I installed my alternator today...left one shim between the pulley halfs and 5 on the outside. I tightened everything down and fired her up. The voltmeter shows just over 14 volts now. I turned it off and tightened the nut a bit more and made sure the belt was seated properly. The belt feels a bit loose...I can twist it between my fingers a half turn. Do you think I am good to go or should I move all shims to the outside and see if that seems to feel better?

Depends on brand of belt? OEM Porsche 3 in 3 out, Continental 1 in 5 out, if both are New that is.

1 in 5 out, you are set
![]() Keep an eye on it, they tend to fall apart after awhile, next time consider an OEM belt

belt size
What is the correct size fan belt for a 914/6 motor that has been upgraded to a
90amp internally regulated alternator with a new pulley half with (8 holes) and standard crank pulley. I have a 10x725 Continental on it. Our host says the belt for a 69-73 is a 9.5 x 710??

Hmmm, sorry I only know 911's, the set up for us is the opposite, conti's are smaller ergo 1 in 5 out.
Best thing is to contact Pelicans, they are the best in customer service.
