SSI's on and SC and the oil lines
Hello,
If one is putting SSI's on an SC, does one HAVE to buy the two oil lines? Not picturing what I'm moving. What parts should I buy before digging in? Reputable source indicated there was a work around that was just as effective, if not as pretty. Anyone care to take a shot at 'splainen it to a person who recognizes a screwdriver 8 out of 10 times? Not that I don't use them...but the parts I have left over plum confound me. Scott |

Expanding a bit....one all metal pipe from left front of engine that crosses the front. The other is part hose part metal pipe that connects to the first near the engine oil cooler then loops back, and runs forward to the oil thermostat. Need a special wrench to undo the connection at the tstat. If it is a connection that is original and super tight might damage the stat, not a fun job.

Ganun,
Does the long one run forward to the thermostat, or the front mounted early carrera 28 row oil cooler? |

I recently did this on my SC. I can see haw the SC hard line could be bent to work, but I'd be afraid that it would be subject to snagging and getting damaged. The revised lines are a very clean installation.
I replaced both soft lines back from the thermostat as mine were leaking. those connections at the thermostat were the only ones that gave me trouble, I ended up cutting the nuts rather than risk damage. |

2nd on cutting the lines with a dremel - slowly, there is a lot of meat their but if you go in too crazy you could damage the T Stat.

Don't need a special wrench just big ones a 34mm and 32 mm if memory serves right. Put Kroil on the threads for a few days and heat with a torch or run the car to temp...3 days at least soaking the threads.
Drop wheel secure the therm with one wrench and have at the other nut. |
