Narrow Body wheel options

Hi guys,

I have a 1977 911s (narrow body coupe) and I am currently running 15x7 fuchs all the way around part number 911.361.020.11. I believe the offset is 23.3 on my wheels and they sit nice and flush as they should.

I want to run a 16 inch fuchs setup and was wondering if anybody out there has had any luck doing this with proper offsets. I found a set of 911 16x7 and 16x6 wheels on craigslist recently and the gentleman was nice enough to let me test fit them and I found that the 16x7's looked great in the rear but the 16x6's had too high of an offset and were set in quite far from the fender lip.

Is there a magic recipe for running a staggered setup? Any insight would be appreciated.

Fuchs 7J16" all the way around ET23,3 fitted with Continental SportContact2 205/55ZR16-N1 would do the magic. There you get the grip and feel you're looking for.

I have a set of 2 16x7. They have a Yellow center though, you will have to paint(or maybe just strip to the black)

I've heard of people getting 8's in the back with the use of different hubs?

vespam5, let me know if you want to sell your 15x7. I have a '71 911T with 15x6 fuchs & want to step up to the 15x7 wheels.

vespam5, the common, popular and effective setup for your car is 16x7 fuchs with 205/50's all around. You can't go wider unless you flare or get midevil on your rear trailing arm mounts with a portapower.

If you know how to make 8's fit on the back with different hubs I'm all ears................

Somewhere I read that 930 turbo rear hubs on a narrow body car allow the use of 8's in the back but that could be totally false. For now I will be keeping my 15x7s with the 205/55 tires in rear, but doing some smaller tires in front. With my current 205 55 fronts, I am getting way too much feedback and wandering from the front end.

944, turbo 8" wheels are rumored to fit the rear of a narrow car with no mods needed....

I would stick with all 16x7's or the 6" 7" combo.....but you do not like that.

Once my car is finished I may try to get those 8" 944 turbo rears and move my 7's to the front. Of course i will post results....but that is way off at this point.

HERE you will find very useful info, courtesy of shrewood lee:

911 Wheel Weights

and here courtesy of Bill V.:

Wheels fitments, all are 17" unless other wise specified

Went back and looked at the charts again....I think you need the 8" with the 23.3 offset to fit the narrow cars in brings the wheel inboard a little more than the standard 10.6 offset for the 8" 911 rear.

From a performance standpoint, the best setup I found on my '76 before I flared it was 225/50-15s on 7x15s all around (and I tried a lot of stuff). I think the combination of gearing and section width of the 225/50-15s beats the 205/55-16s. YMMV.

Squeezing an 8x16 wheel in the back would be cool, but unless it allows you to run a 245/45 (which is rare anyway), I think it's a wash compared to a 225/50 on a 7x15.

Hey IROC,
Do you remember what the offset was on those 15 X 7's?

Another issue on the cars with the 951 8s on the rear is that the ride height tends to be high to avoid rubbing. You also need some good rear camber.. and still, you might have trouble fitting a 245 on the back. A 225 would work ok. and a '77 with a stock engine doesn't have enough hp to warrant it I've never been a fan on 16's on "early" cars, unless they had the SC/Carrera flares. Just look too big imho.

if 6's look to narrow, you could run a small spacer to push it outwards.

Here is a narrow body targa (1975) stuffed up with 225 tyres on 17" Rims. It is awsome!

It's just a fingertip between chassis and flares on this one, but no aggressive camber

You need the wheels from an 86.5 or later Turbo, I think. They did a big offset (and brake) change mid-year.

Can you get Fuchs in the later offset?

I went the 951 route and have 7's and 8's X16 with no issue at all. This is the link to the wheels that I bought (they are no longer white). I have a 1970T

Lowered Price! 7"& 8" X 16" 951 Fuchs w/tires

This is the car now.
