Door reinforcemnt boondoggle
Gents and ladies,
I need help. I bought the door reinforcement kit and the new hardware so my door woulldnt swing open. Boy I may have been better off leaving it rather than trying to repair. What a mess. Old metal and weld tore up the opening so plate one the outside has nothing to hold it back. I tried welding a bracket to the inside. It helped. But now the bigger medal membrane it's welded to just pulled away from the door. Dang! Anyone deal with this and what she solution. Keep welding? Was left with a mess on that door and trying to save it. Door is in great shape so I don't want tothrow I the towel. Any advice? |

I ended up having to cut into the door and repair it properly. By the time you need a reinforcement kit it is too late.
Either buy one as a preventative measure or reconstruct the door if it has already happened. |

I had to do this a few weeks ago. Took me about a day to get the bent metal back in place before I could even put the reinforcement plates in. The PO had attempted to weld the cracks but left big globs of weld material I had to remove.
I had to get longer Allen Head Bolts since the ones in the kit were too short to pull the plates together. It's working ok, but I'm real careful with opening and closing the door. Also I does not open as wide as it did originally due to the reinforcement plates. I had to grind down the bumps on the door stay also so it would put less strain on the reinforcement plates and door. Replaced to Cardboard door panels while I was at it also since the other had fell apart where the speakers go. Here are 2 photos. Sorry, I deleted the ones I had of the reinforcement plate installed. ![]() ![]() Scott 78 911 SC Targa Black 87 944 Black |

Ugliness
Here are a few images. It was all torn up. So even with the reinforcement kit the opening was to big. So I tried putting a metal bracket on the side. The did some blind welding. Yikes. Super ugly. But am trying to get it wherein will stay put. I feel like I've gone down the road of no return with this door.
