What is torque for caliper bolts?

On a 986/996 it is 63 ft/lb. That should get you in the game.

I'm not claiming to be an expert, but that 80lbs seems way high to me! Bentley manual is where I came up with 52lbs on the front and 43lbs on the rear. Maybe the SC has different settings though. I think I'd try and find the actual settings for a '77

Maybe there's a discrepancy in Bob Tindel's article. He's got, " Remount the calipers on the car. Check the piston angle one more time. (Figure 15) Torque the caliper mounting bolts to 70 ft/lbs."
Can't argue with the spec book.
