SC gets a headlight upgrade

Hey all…

So the SC is getting the “easier” of the winter projects knocked off the list, a pair of new H4 style retrofit/upgrade was completed earlier this week. They are the Hella set (fitting with all the other Hella branded stuff on this car).

I will finish this upgrade by working out the position/pointing of the bulbs so that I get the most out of the upgrade. Two thoughts:

I am not crazy about the way that the new bulbs have less of a “bubble” look to them (versus the “sealed beam” lights)

And

What is the rubber seal that came with the kit, that I have not installed? Anyone else get this kit, and not install the grey rubber donut here?

I was just doing this same upgrade on my 83SC. That rubber grommet goes outside the light housing to seal between the plug and the housing.

So far it doesn't seem significantly brighter than the old sealed beams even though I've got relays and 100/90 watt bulbs...

I kind of figured that the donut was a seal that maybe should be “in situ” - but when I pulled the sealed beam headlights there was no seal there.

I guess that I can pull the headlights back out and toss the seals in there. I did notice that this upgrade gave me better brights at first review.

here's a link to before/after photos showing the difference in beam pattern/dispersion between the old sealed beams and the H4 halogens -- not "brighter" per-se, but much fuller coverage/dispersion -- H4 vs. Sealed Beam (OEM) - Pic -- real important that the h4s be aimed properly so the cut-off hits far enough (but not too far) out.

I like the flatter more euro look of H4 lights, and the improved less disbursed low beams.
