Did you replace it after your post about repairing it? Or did you run new wires?

Did you figure this out? My 6AL is solid for a few seconds, blinks, then shuts off with key in start. Can't start the car yet (no oil tank), just confirming electronics at this point.
I also don't get rev limit verification (tach sweep when turning key on). I haven't begun to troubleshoot anything however. Todd |
Not figured out yet. I have a local enthusiast coming to help me out tomorrow morning. Hopefully we'll get it. I have done some diagnostics and think the MSD unit has gone bad.

Just to update, this time the issue was the coil. My new best friend brought over a good one and after going through all of the diagnostic checks from the MSD write-up we connected the new one. Whammo- spark!
I'll be on the phone with MSD tomorrow to get my coil replaced under the 1 year warranty. Big, huge thanks to Bruce G. for coming over to my place today. He was a huge help and it's great to know such a knowledgeable guy so close to me. |
Good for you! glad you solved it with help. I had the same thing happen on my Speedster years ago. Seems like the coil is the last thing you suspect and they are not easily tested, but replacing it with a good one is usually the way to troubleshoot.
Most round MSD coils are made in China. They should replace it for you. I would put in a good transformer type coil. They are bigger, but work well with CDI. I had one on my stock Bosch and it was a big improvement over the Bosch coil. |

It just has a different Core Configuration. Core configuration is how the magnetic path inside the coil is designed.
The most common path used is the "I" core, or Rod Core. This is the round coil. But some modern coils are using a more continuous magnetic path configuration. Using a "Double-C" core or an "EI" core design (also known as E-core) improves the efficiency of how much primary stored energy is transferred to the secondary side of the coil. This design can improve efficiency of the coil. |
