Weird stuff after alternator change
Before I was reading 12.5 V at rest, 12.9 at idle and 14 and above at 2500 rpm. I changed the alternator to a rebuilt Paris Rhone (from our sponsor) and now I have a battery light.
Read voltage at 12.8 rest, 12.5 idle and the same12.5 at 2500 rpm Does this tell me that the new alternator isn't charging? |

You don't say what car you have. If you have an earlier car, the voltage regulator is a separate unit on the left rear of the engine compartment, next to the CDI box. The alternator output is controlled by this device and, if defective, will not allow your battery to charge.

I checked and double checked the wiring before I buttoned it up. So when I pull it apart again I don't what to look or check for

Your car year is in your "Garage"
I feel for you as there is probably something silly causing this. Seems like you did what you should have done. Before you pull the alternator, beat on stuff like the battery ground, connection at the starter, etc. For fun, pull the 14 pin connector at the rear of the engine compartment and re-attach it. This may ALL be a function of some crap connection somewhere. Doubt it is in your wrenching.

Been researching other posts, seem it could be a number of things;
- perhaps I pulled on the blue wire too much? - bad altenator? - stupid question, but if the fan spins does this means the altenator spins too?

also check the connections on the back of the alt bulb. I just had a no charge issue because the spades were totally rusted up.

I am pretty convinced either the altenator is bad or the wiring is messed up when I installed the new one, probably the blue wire to the bulb isn't connected well, I had to repost this wire as it was pretty brittle when I pulled the old altenator out.

Are you sure that your battery ground and posts are absolutely spotless, and that the battery is in good shape and not too old? When I replaced my alt., on first start, there was the alt light. But taking the car out, and driving it, the light went out and has worked properly ever since.

It was the voltage regulator on brand new altenator, swapped it out with spare and it works fine
