Cruise Control doesn't work
I ordered a replacement cable from Pelican and installed it. The original had snapped. However, whenever I hit the lever on the steering wheel console, it doesn't do anything. Where do I check next. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ronin. Any help at all would be appreciated. I think that I read once about a switch underneath the clutch and a brain in the cargo trunk behind the brake fluid reservoir?

Before you go electrical on this, make sure you have shut off the cruise control by moving the lever (is it?) forward. Then shut the car down. Then restart the car and try it out on the highway.
I learned this from an old hand with Pcars. Seems that a reset of sorts happens and the brain will deconfuse itself. Worth a try anyway. Of course my cruise does not work at all. Certainly the bottom of my list, just under A/C which, for '78, is a bit of a joke. John

Try this link. I believe the circuitry is the same. Also check to ensure the clutch switch in the tunnel is working.

Targa:
If the 77 has the switch in the same place as my 86, it has got to be one of the ugliest locations imaginable, in the centre tunnel just right of the pedal box. The switch sits on a small console and engages the clutch lever adjacent to the clevis. On mine, the switch's lever was bent and did not engage when the clutch was engaged. Beware, flesh eating metal all round. Tim |

Thanks guys. That's what I needed. Is the switch easiest to get at from the top or under the car?

Well, I took the wood cover underneath the pedal cluster out and I don't see no switch. Is it to the right of the accelerator linkage?

I have an 85. First step is to check for a faulty fuse 6 in fuse/relay panel in luggage compt. 8 Amp. Bentley has a good trubleshooting checklist. I don't have a scanner. Maybe someone else could help with it. Good luck.

Thanks Dan. I will check this. I found the switch and as Tim stated, it is indeed at the "ugliest location imaginable." However, my switch is making good contact with the clutch clevis. Thanks again to all who replied.

You know just last night I spent a couple hours pulling apart my center console and then laying on my gut getting my cruise control clutch switch working on my 78SC.
Apparently I had bent the lever arm on the switch when I put my pedal cluster back in after having rebuilt it last year. That tells you how much I use cruise control! Its just kills me to stuff on my car that does work though. BTW there is an excellent trouble shooting procedure in the factory manual to help pin point the problem area. If you like I could post it here? Chris B 78SC with working cruise now |

Please Chris. I would probably never even use it but since the car came with it, I would like it to work regardless. Thanks.
