backdate frustrated

So I spent the morning beating on TWO different LH heater ducts and neither of them will clear the distributor cap on my 81 SC.

Does anybody modify these so they will fit ? I do not have welding facilities. The newer part came from our host, has a 930 part number, does not clear the distributor cap.

thanks for any help - just venting

I like the plastic one. If it doesn't clear the distributor, it is easy to warm it up with a hair dryer/heat gun and massage the area with a dowel or baseball bat to give the necessary clearance.

Do you have the ability to cut the metal, form a curved piece to fit in around the distributor and have somebody weld it up?

I saw a really nice one meant to clear a twin plug distributor - Steve Weiner supplied ?

Completely different shape.

I just kept working the same steel ones you show until it fit...ball peen hammer time. The turbo model will fit as it is cut for a larger distro....those are for earlier cars with a dif/smaller or dif spaced distro.

Hey Mark. The one that Steve Weiner got for me was the factory 930 part. The one that Pelican sells isn't even close to the shape of the actual part.

Take it to your local welding joint and leave it in their capable hands. About an hours worth of labour and better results than most can achieve by doing it themselves. I did this a few weeks ago and am thrilled with the results.

I put a 2" diameter steel pipe in the front of it, cupped the inside if the part with my hand, and went to town on the pipe with a maul. Ended up having to respray the paint on the part, but it fits now. I wasn't too impressed the the fitment at all on the drivers' side. Even the mounting holes had to be redrilled. The passengers' side fit great for me.

i got mine to fit, but it's not great. put a 36mm impact socket where the distributor should go and wailed on that with a large hammer.
