In Deep - Anyone know how to remove ring gear from differential?

Herr Bentley has let me down big time !! No description regarding the removal (or installation) of the ring gear from the differential. Is this something covered in the factory manuals? The nuts on the outside of the ring gear (and the thing-a-ma-jiggies locked onto the nuts) appear to be reverse engineered from U-Boats. I know guys swap diffs relatively often. How is it done?

Thanks (and a little concerned),

Ummm.

These guy's who swap diffs (me) have all the tools to properly setup ring and pinion depth after that swap.

We dont just unbolt the diff and slap in a new one.

I have never had a pinion gear track the ring gear correctly after putting in a new diff. Not saying it cant happen...but.

I replace lock plates when doing this also.

Well in theory (famous last words, right?), I should be okay as far as pinion depth goes since I have the original shim pack from the donor tranny. In fact, I have the entire donor tranny on hand just in case. But hey, if I need to buy more Special Porsche Tools to add to my ever-growing Special Porsche Tool collection, then I will gladly give in to my evolutionary need for tools and burn up the credit card.

But seriously, the Bentley has really let me down on this one. The section on differentials is very lightweight and so I have just ordered a set of factory manuals. I will never get caught like this again. But until they arrive, I am dead in the water. So, how do I remove the retainers without damaging anything critical? Major potential for financial loss here if I hurt my differential. And should I replace the retainers and/or bolts?

Thanks,
