Rebuild question

Should the #8 nose bearing always be replaced during a rebuild?

It all depends on the condition of the item. The #8 bearing needs to be examined for wear, like any other bearing. If it were me, I would not replace anything that was not out of spec. Measure the surface where the crank runs on for wear and runout. Examine the front of the bearing, does it look worn where the seal sits? This part is bathed in oil so wear is probabily not an issue except for extremely high mileage engines.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I don't know how I'd measure it for runout without a lathe. It's a little big to chuck in my drill press. :-)
