2 unknown yellow cables 1982 SC

Hello community,

I have a SC which had a fire at the cable loom next to the starter. I cut out all the burned cables and soldered in new cables. Everything fine so far, but I have two yellow cables with the same size and I donīt know how to connect them. The two yellows which come from the front have no power conection. One of the two from or to the engine has 12 Volt when the ignition is on. It is in line with the bigger of the two yellow cables at the starter.

Any ideas how they need to be connected? Thank you very much!

Regards Malte

-sorry for my bad english!

I believe the yellow wire you are referring to is the 12~15 volt + supply to the cold start injector. There should be a spade terminal on the starter solenoid switch which is routed to the thermo timer(on left side chain cover). This circuit is only energized when the starter is engaged and not once the thermo timer is warm either from 12~15 + volts supply energizing the bi metal heater cutting the ground - side of the cold start injector or engine heat doing the same function.

The 2 yellows are different. The thinner one should have a blue (or black depending on the harness porsche decided to use on your car) stripe and goes from the solenoid when the starter is energized to the thermo switch for the CSV as described above.( in a round about way )
The thicker one comes from the 14 pin connector pin 1 or 2, that attaches to the car near the rear 3 fuses. It is energized when you turn the key to start.

Thank you for your answers. Attached is a picture. The yellow wires have 100% the same size and no other colours on them. Both cables that come from the front have no power on them, also not while starting. On of the cables comming from the engine on has power while starting (in line with the starter) and the other has power while the car is running. I cannot see what they are for. They arenīt connected but everything is working (as far as I can say right now)

Any ideas? In the end there is a 50:50 chance, but I am afraid of damge something...

Thanks again!

Picture is not of engine harness. Must be of the Electronic fuel control harness to the computer under the seats?
Do you have a Bentley or other wiring diagram? I have one and will look later, but there should be wires in the loom that have been cut and will connect to them.

Hello Dennis,

no I donīt have the Bentley. But the harness is the one for the engine and the lights. And you are right, I have two yellows on the other side -but I donīt know which two to connect...

( It is a 1982 Canadian car)

Those 2 yellows look to me to be the heater blower control wires. The 2 ends in your pic should be terminating at the switch behind the heater controls next to your parking brake (if you have manual and not automatic heat). As for the other ends (not visible in your pic), one runs to the heater blower relay and the other goes to pin 1 of the 14 pin connector for the engine harness. I'd verify that those are in fact where the wires are going. If so, it shouldn't matter which wire is hooked to which since they both simply run to a switch.
