7"&9" Fuchs on SC - Show me what ya got

I have searched through the threads on putting 7"&9" x 16" 930 Fuchs on an SC. I am almost ready to go there... but want to see a few more real life examples, together with any other recommendations regarding this combination.

So, please post away your pictures.

Al G.

Go to my Pelican page. I've got some pictures there...none real close but still gives a good sense of proportion. BTW, not a SC but a 3.2 Carrera which for all practical purposes look the same.

I'll try to snap some pics later today. They look awesome! I am running Bridgestone RE730 245/45's rear and 225/50's front with slightly rolled fender lips. I find the 225's in the front help with understeer a bit. The car has been lowered to 25.0 rear and 25.5 front.

cheers

7 & 9 x 16 on my Carrera

Here are a couple of shots of my car -- I know its not an SC, but body-wise it is identical.

Can I butt in? Is it true that the 9" look less aggressive due to the offset? That is, the 8" actually sits further out than the 9" due to offset (spacers aside)? I notice between the pics above that the difference in the "slope" of the wheel from vertical to horizontal seems almost identical as well, so it seems tough to tell the diff. between the two without seeing the backside numbers.

Also, does anyone ever use spacers with an SC and 8" or 9" wheels?

By the way, the extra weight of the 9" may not mean much but this would be a good time to get into the CV joints for a regrease and general lookaround at the sway bar mounts as well. Just a worrywort I guess but added weight "out there" has to tax the whole system a bit.

... and here are the 7" and 8". I heard there was *some* adhesion benefit to going with the nines, but don't know if I would personally benefit from it... BTW, I don't use spacers.

No shined-up paddles in the group either. I am debating if I ought to shine them on my SC. They look so darn good either way...

I have 7" and 8"X16 on my 80SC Coupe.
I think they're great.
Aesthetically, I 've always thought the 6" and 7" make the car look the best.

Nonetheless, the traction I get with my 7 & 8 set-up is superb.
The only drawback from time to time is parallel parking. Seeing that I drive in and out of the city on occasion, in tight spots, the 7" & 8" can be a real pain in the ass to get the car to squirm around for a good park.

Brad:

Got it; wow! I am about to restrip and reshine my wheels and I just can't decide if the paddles should be shined up. I love the way spoked wheels look, from the side, as they spin up and down. Reminds me of a propeller that appears to feather back and forth as it winds down. Especially cool if the prop. center has the spiral a la ME-109.

I digress. Beautiful rides you guys. I can't wait until my car can be shown without its bumps and bruises...

Let it shine.

The upper picture is of 7x8x16 Fuchs. 8's and 9's have the same size outside rim, but the offset is different, and the lug nuts are set in. 9's are better, obviously, but also much more expensive.

The lower picture is 8x10x17, with Fuchs centers welded into aftermarket rims.

With the custom-made wheels, you can fit a lot more tire in there (I run 235/275x17). Oddly, the 17's don't cost too much more to make ($1300 plus a set of donor 6x16's) than a set of 7x9x16 Fuchs, and more tires are available in the larger diameter size.

I forgot to put the end caps on in the lower picture.

Jasper, were you at a Porsche club meeting or, is it just coincidence there are 2 other P-cars in this pic?

I'm Convinced!

Many thanks to all - I just called up the vendor and will collect the wheels with new Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres (225/50 Front, 245/45 Rear) tomorrow. Cost is £600 / US$900 all in (I got a discount for a tiny bit of kerb rash on one rear wheel and he needs the garage space!)

Pictures will be posted when the car is finished

Al,
Is that £600 for the 4 wheels and the tires? Where did you get them from?
