255/40 in back will be closest to OEM tire diameter, although some people go with 245/40's to drop gearing slightly but it just looks too small in my opinion. I have 17x9.5 fuchs in back and I wish I had gone with 265/40's instead of 255, but for a 17x9 rim a 255/40 is perfect.

225/45 in front will be closest to OEM tire diameter, but I think that on a 17x7 rim it looks a little too "ballooney", it would be better on a 17x7.5. You could do a 205/50, it's about the same as OEM diameter, but you would have less tread width and more sidewall. I have 17x7 fuchs in front and I went with 215/45 which is only about 3/10's below OEM size, but there are less tires available in this size.

Less width, but since the wheel and overall diameters are the same, sidewall is the same too. The 45 or 50 percent aspect ratio means nothing without the width factored in. 225/45 = sidewall of 101.25mm, 205/50 = sidewall of 102.5mm. The difference would be negligible even if the tire dimensions were exact - which they're not.

A local PCAer here has the same E-meister 7 & 9 wheels, he's running 205/50 front and 255/40 rear, looks great.

I went with Nitto NT01s. 225F and 255R. They offer a 215 width for the front I wish I went for as they are a bit "ballooney" for mike taste...

Here's how they look, I get nothing but compliments, you be the judge

Couldn't be happier with the choice. Very aggressive and predictable grip without the softness of a Hoosier...that was the other consideration. They do toss some pebbles but nothing too crazy. But hey, that adds to the patina of a 35y/o car with 173xxx on the clock....right?

Didn't want to be 100% up the creek if I get caught in the rain.

Oh, and they get TONS of attention. But, who cares.

Street = asphalt.

Race track = asphalt.

Dunlop Direzza Star Specs are an awesome street tire and are hard to beat in the rain as well.Go for 225/45/17 fronts and 265/40/17 rears on 7 and 9 inch wheels. If you feel conservative they make a 255/40/17 that will do just fine !

I use the Dunlops as rain tires on 7 and 9 inch Fikse FM 10's and Nittos on my 8 and 9 inch Fikse Profil 5's

Cheers

can you use 265 in the back without rolling fenders or moving lines on the inside

Depends on the tire brand and model. Some 265s are wider than others. I know that the 255 RE-11s on the local car are pretty wide. I think 265 RE-11 would require fender roll or a fair amount of negative camber.

The rear is less critical than the front,i try fitted a friend's R888 275/40/17's on the rear out of curiosity and it was a tight fit ,but Dunlop 265/40/17 won't be a problem.Matter of fact i regret not buying the 265's ... next set !!!

There are not many choices in 265/40/17,i think Dunlop is the only brand that has that size in high performance street tires.

Cheers

I really like your car's stance. Could you provide your ride height front and rear, wheel well opening to ground?

Do you have any side view pictures?

I'll most likely will be using Dunlop Direzza ZII's 225's in front and 255's in rear.

Thanks,
Dean

Dean here are a couple side shots

I hate to be a party pooper but I have no idea what the measurements are. I told the shop that I wanted "a finger width between tire and fender and the var to sit level, mo rear squat"...thats what I got and I LOVE IT.

I do know my stance is similar to JQ911 and I believe he has measurements...pm him

I just went from Rotas to Euromeisters.
I had:
215/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear on the 7.5/9x17 Rotas (24.6 inch calculated diameter)

I now have:
205/50/17 front and 255/40/17 rear on the 7/9x17 Euromeisters (25 inch calculated diameter)

I have had ALL 4 tires grind within the first week. The tires don't really seem like they're much wider in actual cross section, but the Euromeisters visibly push them out towards the sides of the car all around, despite claiming to be the same offset and such.

now, I love the new Euros, but they will prove to be more than just plug and play for me, I will have to aggressively roll all 4 wheel wells, which I'm fine with.

225/45 on 8x17ET25 & 255/40 on 9.5x17ET19
when I tracked this 235/45 & 275/40 on the same wheels, all the fenders have been shaved and modified to fit the bigger tires, 225/255 would be no problem in that regard

what tires to use on what wheel depends on ride height, suspension setup, wheel width, height and ET. Every ones will a little different
