SC with Flaumeister sound file

Hey guys, thought you might like to hear the latest mod. '79 SC (The Duck) with a 1 in, 2 out Flaumeister. Still has the cat for now. Enjoy...

Thanks Jack!!!!

Mark,

Your car sounds great!

I have been wanting to do a Flau Meister for a long time. Which part number muff did you use? How is the resonance?

Thanks!

Phil

bell 07-28-2002 09:57 AM

i likes it :D
have any pics of underneath?
thanks

Glasgow 911SC 07-28-2002 10:27 AM

I second the request for pics. Are you keeping the rear valence off or still cutting the new hole?

Mark Wilson 07-28-2002 10:29 AM

Phil,
Not sure of the model. Jack donated it to me. I think it was for a Camaro. The resonance in the cab is not bad, but it is loud. You need to be prepped for for that before you go there.

Here'e a pic. They mounted it with the bottom twisted forward so the muff won't show when the valance is installed.

Mark that really sounds mean!!! Let's get together and let me hear it at 6,000+ RPM's... I will bring the dB meter..

Take care.

Heres another one from my 3.6 w B&B headers and Fabiani/flowmaster Fabiani/Flowmaster

I've got an other 1.2 megs of 2 dyno runs with no way to edit or place to host it. So far I've only managed to learn how to change it to an MP3

Mark Wilson 07-28-2002 02:11 PM

Bill,
That sounds awesome.

If you want to email the other file, I'll try to convert and post it for you. Going out for a drive right now, but will be back later and can work on it.
Mark

Bill Verburg 07-28-2002 02:52 PM

Thanks Mark, Jack O. did the last one for me:) (unfortunatly he's a Mac user so I couldn't learn much:( ). At least I figured out how to convert it to an mp3. But it needs to be edited. Its big(~1.2 megs) so be patient w the download

Mark Wilson 07-28-2002 03:01 PM

So Jack is a Mac guy huh? I don't know what to think about those Hollywood types.

Here's my exhaust system (also Flaumeister) right after installation.

My clip is much shorter though.

And here's a good clip of the car screaming around a corner at Bogus Basin last May.

Big difference between Mark's and Bill's. I think Lelands sounds closer to Mark's.

What are the differences in the set ups if you guys can define your exhaust set up. I am dying to upgrade mine, but I do not want it so loud that its unbearable to drive down teh street and the B&B resonance (and lack of warranty) are pushing me towards the Fabspeed or GHl.

Thanks guys. I know this gets beaten to death, but its hard to understand the difference in sounds with all the different combinations of set ups (SSI, cayby pass, just a muffler change which is what I want to do with maybe a catbypass).

Jack Olsen 07-29-2002 10:11 AM

The difference is exhaust architecture and displacement. I believe both Leland and Mark have the stock exhaust (maybe Leland has SSI's?), which means there's a crossover pipe mixing the output from each cylinder bank before it goes to the cat (or cat bypass). With Bill's, each set of cylinder banks spills directly into the muffler, through equal length pipes, with no cat involved. The pipes themselves are also a larger diameter with the 3.6-liter engine than the ones from an SC.

It's nice to see a part of Black Beauty alive again in another car.

Leland Pate 07-29-2002 10:28 AM

I am not running SSIs just yet... maybe next year. But I have added a Cat By-pass pipe. I think it made the exhaust just a bit louder.

I love the sound... Cary heard it while he was down here... perhaps he could add his .02 cents as well. I like it allot, but I have kept the stock muffler just in case I ever change my mind.

Let me try to find another good photo of the muffler...

PDACPA 07-29-2002 12:09 PM

Leland - Thats the stock muffler? Did you add the second out?

PDACPA 07-29-2002 12:13 PM

Alright, I go to check on which engine Leland has thinking maybe he had a 3.6 and they came with a stock dual out muffler and there is a picture that says: "Here is my engine at my shop at work" and another says "Had her in for a good bath (same shop)!"

I think I need to join the military so I can take my P car inside at work and take it apart! No offense just had to give you a hard time! :-)

widebody911 07-29-2002 12:14 PM

me too! me too!

Here's my car w/B&B, pulling out onto the track. I don't have any high-speed clips of my setup.

Leland Pate 07-29-2002 01:25 PM

No that's not the stock muffler.... that's the same single in- dual out flowmaster setup that I got from Jack-o.

Most places in the Military don't allow you to bring a POV into a work shop. We just happen to be lucky to have a building with a large equipment bay, ramp and garage door... everyone is cool with it as long as we keep it on the D.L. :)

I don't do it any more because I have a GARAGE! Whoo hoo!

:D

I did all of the reassembly of my engine in the shop though...
kept it on the stand in the supply closet. And I had a couple wall lockers full of parts for 6 months.

I am now convinced that my little digital camera doesn't pick up the sound of the exhaust system very well.

It sounds very raspy on my computer.

I love my Flaumiester!

masraum 07-29-2002 01:28 PM

Sweet sound, nearly gave me a woody! :D

I think I need a flowmaster, excuse me, flaumeister.
